08 M1000 Want to take out the mechanical reverse

Anyone know what's involved in taking all the reverse gears and stuff out of a '08 M1000? Extra weight. I haven't torn one apart yet but we're getting close.

I am getting ready to get rid of reverse myself. From what I understand we have really two choices. Spend $800 on the BDX lite DD with better gearing, or find a M8 case with better stock gearing. I am anxious to follow this thread.

meh...I guess not as simple as getting a kit, he doesn't sell them anymore. 09 harness and a helix should do the trick, just don't keep it in reverse long.

the ddlite is smaller, even the 09 have the same housing. My reverse started sticking, so rather than a total loss and strandation.

I swapped the dd for the lite. Throw away the acturator and soleniod, old dd vs ddlite weight loss is a lot. the gear change is huge-plus forged gears, and i've never been a fan of the mech reverse, rather have none, imo. rant over

the easiest way to do it is to get a diamond drive lite and the drive shaft for it. if you take apart the reverse drive it comes apart pretty easy. but the gears are large assy.

Check this option out. http://peakdesignworks.comThis billet shifter replaces the shift motor and shift gearbox on the '07-08 DDs and loses a solid 2 pounds. Simple to install and bullet proof. This replaces 2.1 pounds with a 1 ounce kit. PM and check out peakdesignworks.com.
