08 Duramax Regeneration Question

Yesterday I was towing a 24ft open four place. The distance was approximately 300 miles. My truck went into regeneration seven different times. Has anybody experienced anything like this? Are there any suggestions for a possible fix. I called the service department and they said unless it lost power it is fine. Well it never lost power but it seems really odd for it to regenerate that many times. I'm wondering if maybe the exhaust is blocked. Any help would be great.
thanks

how do you know it in re-gen, are you watching an egt gauge?
but really though, delete that biach!

I have a 2011 Duramax. The first "regen" that I notoced, indicated by reduced MPG and the dang compass goes whacky, was at 700 miles. Most of those 700 miles were local driving; slow and no load.

I am now at 1700 miles and the regen has not yet re-occured. Be advised I drove the trailer for a while and did some longer distance runs, so, I did not expect it. The time between "regen" really depends on what you are doing. If you have the vehicle up around 60-65, or, you have a load on, it will be longer between "regen's".

If you are experiencing "regens" less then a couple of 1000 miles per, you are either driving mostly city, or, something is going wierd.....!

Hope this helps.

Thanks- I have an edge programmer and I was watching the gauge. I was talking to a buddy who said the smoke that is produced from my particular chips causes the truck to go into regeneration more than it should. I think i'm going to opt for the delete and not worry about the regen again.

You might as well delete the DPF you have already voided your warranty with the edge programmer. Unless you have a really cool dealer...

oh boy programed and a dpf not a good combo...... DELETE! that dpf.

then sell that edge and get a real programmer.

Have you owned the truck since it was new? How many miles are on it? How many miles since you put the programmer in? Have you at any time used off-road fuel that may not be ULSD? How fast were you going? Lugging the engine causes lots of smoke under load which piles up the filter. Lots of factors affect regeneration frequency. Blaming the programmer isn't unreasonable in this case, but an injector that is passing will also pack up the DPF and since the filter catches the smoke it will mask what is really going on. Also, the DPF can only be regenerated so many times in its life cycle.

X2...Problem solved! EGR block and PCV reroute as long as you're at it. You also may want to look into some EFILive programming as well, it's a wonderful thing.

Went ahead and had the dpf removed, MBRB exhaust put on and had it tuned with EFI live. Much better truck. Not seeing huge gains right now. Guessing the winter fuel had an effect on that. Tried to have the egr block put in but the mechanic was unable to get a few bolts loosened without breaking them. Will have to try again sometime.

What size MBRP exhaust did you go with? Also if you dont mind me asking around how much did the exhaust and EFI live cost you?

I dont know what ocon paid but we charge around 750 for the MBRP 4" turbo back system and basic EFI tuning.
