08 Dragon Info

I have a buddy looking at an 08 Dragon.

Here is what I know.
-2008 155 Dragon
-1100 miles
- New top end due to failure
-$3800

Sound reasonable?? I am just a dumb skidoo guy so I could look at the chassis and things overall, but know nothing about the engines other than I know people have complained about the reliability of the CFI 800. Just looking for some opinions from you like branded folks with experience.:face-icon-small-coo

Buying that sled without tearing down the top end would be crapshoot. It sounds like a good deal but I have seen those "warranty rebuilds" come apart and destroy the complete engine in 500 miles or less. That being said, with the proper setup, that engine can be made to last over 3000 miles if built correctly.

The low buck approach is to install 2012 pro pistons, making sure that the cylinder assembly has no cracks or peeling and the piston to cylinder clearance is very close to .0045. If not, send the new pistons along with the cyl in to have it rechromed to the proper fit. Reassemble the top end, install the SLP coolant bypass kit, set the oil pump to factory specs and add 1 oz per gallon to the fuel when filling up. Both Polaris and Arctic Cat sell excellent oil. You MUST also make sure that the 2.33 (April 2010) reflash has been done or a midrange burndown will most likely occur. More HP can be had with a PCV fuel controller, but it is not needed with this setup. Peak power is around 8100 RPM.
