07 M8 slp pipe clutching

Have a pipe on the way. I read through several posts I found in the search but wasn't finding exactly what I needed. Im running an orange secondary spring now with shift assist. Ride 8-12k feet in wyo and co. What weights do I need to be running to hold rpms's on the sled in my sig? Im thinking around 71? is that correct or am I way off? Thanks

That sounds like it would be close but you may want to go even lighter with a straight 36 helix and orange spring it is recommended 68g's, i would almost use these and watch my rpm's at lower elevations. But i was running 73g's say 4000 ft and i was pulliing 8100 rpm so the pipe does make a difference i was only getting 7650 or so before the pipe so 71g's may work good up there, good startng point anyways.

67 grms or less at that altitude. Probly closer to 66 1/2 with the stock springs. Correct rpm is critical for that pipe to work like it should you will be happy with the pipe seems to work good. I would get the porting as well realy makes a difference if funds allow

I also have a 07 M8 with SLP pipe, it really wakes this sled up. I have the stock set up with shift assist in the secondary and the stock 68 grams and the AC gold spring in the primary. I ride from 6 k to 9 k. You may need to go a bit lighter at your elevation. I was running an AC red primary spring, but changed to the gold to pick up a few more revs. Good luck.

tm8 has really helped me out a bunch. I would listen to him and install a set of 67 gram weights and put in an slp 140/310 (blue/yellow) primary spring. I would also think about doing the 40/36 helix that slp recommends. I switched mine out and really like it.

make sure if you order the 40/36 you get the non perc reverse one. ordered one from slp and they sent me the one for the 09. half the backshift ramp is cut out for when the perc is engaged. talked to bdx where slp gets thier helix's and they said they have had several complaints from guys with the 07/08 with backshifting using the 09 helix. slp will tell you that its the only one they make now, but just call bdx they still make both. i know my M8 runs 8,200rpm at 6k running the 68's...

Last year I ran the stock 68's with a can. It pulled 8100 ish and ran real strong. This summer I added the full SLP kit, more vents, shift assist and rock rollers. I anticipate keeping the same 68's which will allow to pull a little better RPM's. I ride some pulls close to 13K.

I would look to a set of cutlers adjustable if you have to do it, at least thats my plan.

SLP recomends a a 71 Gram MTX weight with 2grams added. These weights run 4 grams over stock putting it at 69 grams per that math for a stock weight. Keeping in mind that is rated to 10K. Granted this is not comparing apples to apples. Thus why I stuck with what I had till I have a chance to ride it.

I have a spare set of 68's if you decide to try them, rather then wasting $60

As I understand it this is more aggresive right out of the hole, what did the helix change that you liked ?

I did the porting and the pipe so I went with the 44/36 helix. It jumps out of the hole much harder and still backshifts just as good. The 44 degree part is very short so it transitions to the 36 real quick. When I hit a hill from a close distance the sled accelerates much quicker.

Going from 10K to 12K will require 1-2 grams of weight reduction. I still think you will be 66-67G if you ride at 12K much. If you can get 8000rpm at 12K with 68G weights than your runs better than mine. Also when I was running just the slp pipe mine ran best at 7900rpm. I tried 8000-8100 and mine lost a lot of its pull. After I ported it the thing loves 8100-8200 rpm.

Thanks for all of the info guys. So the general idea is everyone thinks I should run somewhere between a 66 and a 67 weight? I have an ac orange spring in the secondary now with the shift assist. Let me know. Thank you

But isn't the secondary between '07/'08 and '09 otherwise the same? Why would the reverse cutout matter? Isn't the clutch closed up by the time the cut out could be engaged and why wouldn't the '09 then have backshift problems if that were the case? Curious, and perhaps nervous now, because I just installed one with the cutout in my '08 and assumed it would be fine just not necessary or used (lighter by a few grams I guess).

you beat me to the punch!!LOL so what is the deal I have the helix sitting out in the shop ready to go in sled..I have 08 and the helix i got from slp has the cutout????

Interesting discussion on the cut-out helix.

I have and 07 m8 with the 09 RKT torsion kit with the reverse cut out installed.
Never really noticed any problems with the backshift other than an improvement over stock.

Only have about 250 miles on the set-up, so still some time for evaluation I guess.

I also agree about what has been said above. I run at about 10000ft. 67 gram weights, SLP 140/310 primary spring, Rkt secondary kit green snopro spring. Sled is ported, head and SLP pipe.
