07 dragon 700 clutching issues and power

hi guys, a guy i know, i figure to ask this for the guy, but hes having clutching issues, cant get more than 7400 rpm, and so he tried different weights from the poo dealer here which helped him a bit but certainly is not the solution...

so hes thinking to invest the money to get a SLP exhaust system and a clutch kit from them,

is this the thing to do? i know clutch kit sure isnt a bad idea, but how about the exhaust system, is he wasting the money there or what?

what are some recommended thigns to do to these sleds for power?, Thanks

Don't wast the money. Make sure you have the right weights for your elavation. There is a problem if he is only turning 7400. Check clutch springs and motor mounts to see if one of them are broken. Check compression and for any kind of unusual drag on the track with the belt off. Look at exhaust valves and make sure they are opening all the way up. Check the rollers and bushings in the clutch. Basically do a preseason service odds are if all checks out your clutch springs are sacked and need replaced.

Both clutches should be completely serviced, a SLP exhaust has nothing to do with improving a 7400rpm max sled.

Definitely check the power valves. My solenoid went out on a ride years ago and a similar thing happened. I plugged them off with vacuum caps and all was good.

if the power valve goes than wouldnt you want to fix that relay? because power valves are part of the engines design to make maximum power

compression, what should compression be on these sleds also? brand new?

I used the vacuum caps to get it out of the mountains since it couldn't climb anything. It's also a great way to troubleshoot the solenoid. I never replaced it on that sled and never had any drivability issues. It just keeps the valves closed until a predetermined rpm. For emissions and low-end I suppose.

Your issue could be something else entirely. But this is something pretty easy to rule out.

COMPRESSION: 120 psi +/- depending on elevation, engine temp, quality of gauge etc.

EXHAUST VALVES: Pull the exhaust valves, look for TORN rubber bellows, broken/rusted exhaust springs. CLEAN the bores in the jugs (with lacquer thinner or BRAKE-CLEAN on a shop rag wrapped around a 1" wide scraper) as well.

I've had the exhaust valve hoses plugged on my D7 since near the beginning.

More responsive in my case, but there's several threads on this as well.

You can diagnose this very simply yourself with a set of mini-vise grips. Crimp the 1/4" rubber line between the "T" and the solenoid, then drive the sled and make your OWN determination.

PRIMARY CLUTCH: Take a look at the PRIMARY clutch look for a BROKEN primary spring.
