After replacing the cases on my 08 700 I obviously put a new water pump seal in when putting it back together. After putting the motor back in and running it I noticed it was leaking water. Found that it was coming out of the seep hole behind the seal so I figured I either had gotten a bad seal or didn't install it properly. So I got a new seal and pulled the motor out again and took extra care putting the new one in then put everything back together, ran it around the yard to bleed air out of it and discovered that it was leaking again.
So I got another seal, pulled the motor AGAIN, and this time my dad and I really took extra care and slowly tapped the back part of the seal on a little, then the front a little, then the back and so on till it was finally on. We then made fittings for the water pipes and pressurized it to 10 psi and left it for 30 min to make sure it would hold before putting the motor back in this time.
So I guess what I am getting at with my long story is that I would've gladly paid 30 bucks the 1st time or would highly recommend using the special tool.
