I'm just about ready to jump ship from 2strokes and pick up an 07 Apex with an Alpine turbo. Since I'm pretty unfamiliar with the turbo 4 strokes I was hoping some of you guys could chime in with some info on what to look out for when buying a used Tapex. Is it normal for the stock yamaha gauge to read any error codes w/boost? Also is it true that the air/fuel gauge doesnt read true when running AV gas? Thanks in advance for any info helping me on my purchase!!

no its not normal for them to read error codes under boost, and the A/F should read rite with what ever fuel you use. The senders do screw up over time. Take it for a ride before you buy and ask who did the install. If done proper it will run just like a stocker. The best thing to do if you want to know what kind of shape the sled is in is to give it a leak down test. Takes about 30-40 mins and then you will know exactly what kind of shape the engine is in. Anything under 15% is not much to worry about.

OOPS(Mite run a lil better then any other sled out there) haha

I hope it runs better than a stocker if it has a turbo on it.;)

Like ironhead said, take it for a ride, see how it does, watch the gauges.I have never seen or heard of a a/f gauge reading eratically from avgas. If anything, straight race gas is harder on those gauges than anything. Find out who did the install and talk with them if possible. Try to find out oil change records or how often. Ask about issues in the past if any or things to look out for. Some sellars arent always honest thats why its best to be as thorough as possible with a visual. Good luck and welcome to club boost.

Thanks for the tips. Sled has 750 miles, 500 boosted. Install was done by Nick King at Vernon Motorsports. The seller said that the air/fuel gauge reads all over the place due to running AV gas? I REALLY want to buy the sled just a little cautious since I'd be fugged if something went wrong! Apparently the powderlites fuel control box blew and has been replaced with a pure logic box instead.

no worries on the install then.the af sensors go bad after prolonged exposure to the lead in av gas or race gas
