07 151" vs. 08/09 146"

An opinion piece for everyone. What do you think would get around in the deep and climb better, an 07 Summit 800r 151" or an 08/09 Summit 800r 146"? Is the extra 5" of track better than losing 40+ lbs?

Last year in Island park I had my 08 154 and my brother had his 08 146 and our riding buddy has his 06 151. We were climbing this very steep short climb that was 4ft plus of soft snow and very rutted up and the 06 151 could only make it with a huge run to get some speed. My 154 shot up it like nothing and my brothers 146 made it as well but just not as fast as my 154. The downfall with the rev chassis when climbing is the tendency to want to wheelie and come over backwards where the XP will keep the front down and allow more speed to be achieved.

The 146 is a great climber and all around sled for a 146, will out climb a 151 rev quite easily especially in real soft snow.

The funny thing is I got rid of my 08 for a 09 and got rid of my 09 for a 07 151 rev because I enjoy riding the rev chassis more than the XP. If I was a big climbing guy I would have definately stayed with the XP cause they are a animal when going straight up.

There is NO way you could get me OFF an XP and go back to a rev!! I weight 165 and the 146 800 is a Beast in any condition! climbs lika goat in the hills! Stays afloat in 3ft.+ of pow! Carves tight corners around pine trees and other fellow stuck riders:D

I could not Disagree more. I rode a 146 xp. Im 195 pounds with gear. and all it did was just wana get stuck. Ive rode sleds for about 14 years now. It did have Great Track Speed But the front end didnt carry for chit. Ive rode 06-07s revs that went much better stock for stock.

Just to give you a ieda.... I let the owner of the 146 [800r] Ride my m7 mod. and he went about 300 feet higher up the hill and he said it wanted to still keep going lol..... Btw this xp had a Timbersled Front and Rear Mt mod seat,Lightweight wheels and a Can. so it was no near stock.

My M isnt near stock either. But i would expect a Sled like the Xp which aprently is talked up alot to do much better. This is just my opinion on it.

Based upon the title of the thread I am unsure what a m7 has to do with any of the questions asked, especially a mod m7. The m sleds are good sleds but the title specifically asked about a 151 REV compared to a 146XP.

I can tell you this.....Rev and XP chassis, same engine, same track, same hill in side by side tracks in the deep, the Rev chassis spinning 45MPH track speed and the XP spinning only 35MPH were almost identical in how high they could get on the hill. The XP chassis is just SO much better in the deep than the Rev it's silly....after the XP was clutches and spinning 45mph then it wasn't even close.
I would say if both sleds are setup properly in susp. and identical in power to the track, then the 146 XP will get around better than the 151 Rev.
And the 146 will have only 2.5" less track on the snow than 151.....which is less than 1 paddle, and it has a far superior approach angle and lighter weight track....and then the 40-50lbs less weight, it is a no brainer in the deep.

Had two xp's 146's in our group both had real problems in the deep.

The rev 05 151 stock 2'' paddle in our group beat them all season long.

The xp's need serious clutching or never will play the steep and deep game period.

To add to the hurt they burn't belt's like crazy and constantly where in the shop trying to fix the lack luster performance and the belt issues.

Maybe the major dealer here needs some help getting them to run right I don't know...
