guys, my bro is lookin at those two years of m series. he's 5' 7" a buck fifty soaking wet. what's the better motor and what's the better motor for him. he's logic is, givin his weight, if he goes with the 1000 he won't feel like he wants to turbo as much. but will it be to much for him to throw around?

thoughts?

I would jump up a year and get the better track and lighter '09 800 with electronic reverse. With a pipe it will be with the 1000 and lighter. But a stock '10 or '11 800 would be better than them two in stock power and weight. my .02

Definitely an 800. But like hector said, If he can, get an 09+. There really Is a substantial difference with the power claw track, updated tunnel and electric reverse.

M8 and I would wait till spring or next fall. If you think prices are good now, with the economy the used sleds will get cheaper.

So, is a turbo on his budget??? It sucks to have to settle for less, but if his choices are that, I would go with the lighter '08 m8. But the same year 1000 will out do the 800 if he can learn to ride the weight... If he goes with any of them two, tell him to budget a future DD... Good luck...

thanks for all your input guys. keep it coming. sounds like the 800 is the favored motor. he isn't planning to buy until spring/summer time so maybe he we be able to afford an 09.

I think the 1000s rode like a tank compared to the 800s....unless you are huge or have superhuman strength the 1000 just seems to be too much

1000 had a tendency to lose bearings in the crank.

If you look hard over the summer and low ball a few people, I am sure you can find an 2010 M8 for a smokin deal. IMO i wouldn't buy anything older than 09. The new 800 HO motor was way better and the PC track is amazing.

m8 gets my vote had a 09 m1000 had every clutch combination in it high maintenance still only could get 300 miles out of a belt gets costly fast when the snow is good ridin 2 times a week:face-icon-small-sad

Along with the valid points mentioned above.

You need to ask what kind of a rider is he?

Can he ride well enough to handle a 1000cc sled? Weight and power?

About 15 yrs ago when turbos were just getting popular. A personally was part of the group that helped find man that had went missing from his group. He was on his first ride on his first sled a 700cc turbo Cat. That his buddy in the group had sold him. We found him 8 hrs later under a tree with the sled on top of him. You could see from the track marks he was out of control when he crashed.

A good skilled rider can take a under powered sled and get to the same places the bigger sled and get.

My point being just make sure he can handle the sled.

my Turbo M8 will be for sale in about a month, im saling it cheap beause i know the used market is horrible, maybe it will sale for $6500?

I'm not sure of his budget, it will most likely change by summer. he is one of those guys that can ride anything and is good at everything he does. way strong for his size. but let's be honest, the more effortless a sled is to ride, the better your gonna ride it. I wanna see him on a 800 so that's what ill talk him into. 09+ m8 153. also, he totalled my last sled, so he wont be touchin my current one.
