06 summit x noise question

my buddys 06 summit x has a loud clicking sound when you come down a hill climb. It does it when the brakes are applied part way sometimes and when no brakes are applied at all. I checked my chaincase and found nothing, I tightened and lined up my track and still nothing. Is there any thing you know of that might be causing this clicking sound? Could it be worn out brake pads dragging on the disc.
Please let me know if you've had this issue or can help me in anyway.
Thanks
~Jeff

My'06 151X did that exact thing for 100 miles. Had it in the shop, they found a missing track clip. They replaced the clip, but the clicking sound stayed. It went away when the chain exited the chaincase:eek: Blew a monster hole out of the bottom of the case. I suggest pulling your case cover and taking a CLOSE look at the chain. I upgraded to a 15pitch from the stock 13. Mine let loose at about 1200 miles. Good luck brother.

We weren't able to found what was causing the "ticking", but it never showed up with the new chain. I think a pin in a link was working it's way out and rubbing on the side of the case. There were some wear marks on the inside of the case. Look CLOSE:)

Its pieces of your chain in your chaincase. The plates break off from the outside on the 06 models. Happened to my 06 3 times in a season. I went with a TEAM 3/4 HYVO setup all around. Great fix. Once you hear that clicking your chain is in need of replacement for sure. Dont ride it unless you get that chain swapped out. It may LOOK good, but even a tiny piece broken off can cause the noise and easily go unnoticed. Good luck
