06 Summit 800 HO not running right.

My father rides an 06 800 Summit and can't get it to run right. We went riding Saturday in Togwotee and as soon as we left the trailer it hardly wouldn't run. So we took it back to the trailer and tride to see what was wrong with it. He would pin the throttle and it would bearly go. Also the tach was not working at all. Checked the plugs to make sure it wasn't lean and they were fin. Everything on the sled is stock except for the HPS can. Does any have any ideas?

I read on here about a relay mounted just above the clutch cover that fails. Has the same effect that your describing, someone here should come on here and confirm this Dino

Pull the plug off the mpem alot of them didn't get greased(dialectric) up properly and had corrosion issues. First ride of the year? fresh fuel? did you use stabilizer last year, crap in carbs? Buddy had an 04 wouldn't run worth crap 'till he pulled the steel wool out of the exhaust(stuffed in to keep out mice).relay didn't affect engine

He just had it serviced for the season before the first ride. Also he noticed some black carbon looking stuff on top of the plugs when he pulled the caps off to take them out. A friend said that it wasn't getting oil and the computer went into safe mod. Thats why it was running ruff and the tach wasn't working. Is there anything to that?

sounds like what mine was doing a couple weeks ago. Headlight and tach didnt work and ran like crap. It turned out to be the relay like Tackbtch said. The reason mine wasnt running right is because the exhaust valves werent opening. If it is the relay you can pick one up at NAPA, here is some stuff I dug up when mine went out.

Very easy open up the left side panel of the sled and its a square looking plug with a mounting tab on the end of it, right above your secondary in the harness it just unplugs, your best bet is to go to Napa and get a couple of them, Part # AR 201 there about $12 compared to buying a skidoo one for $25.

Well you guys were right - $13.19 @ the local NAPA & we're back in business!! It was Part #AR 272 though - not AR 201. Anyway, it sure beats the s**t out of what the dealers would charge for the repair!! Thanks everybody

AR272

AR201
Features & Benefits:N.O. Terminals 30-87 @ 50 Amps; N.C. Terminals 30-87a @ 20 Amps; Coil Terminals 85-86
# of Terminals:5

The AR 201 works just fine, have one in my '03 in fact (50 amp rated) but costs more. If you want an exact match to the BRP unit then get AR143 20 amp rated. The AR272 is rated in the middle at 30 amps and priced accordingly. All three will work but I would just buy the cheaper AR143 for spares

Part # 0-332-019-150 for bosch relay
