06 RMK 700 Stator or something else?

I went out for a ride today and all of the sudden my MFD went blank. The sled has idled low off and on lately and when I switched the headlight between low and high the gauge would go blank then come back on. Then today it went blank for a while then it sporadically went on and off when I was riding. I turned the hand and thumb warmers off and it didnt make any differince.I pulled the tank and checked the capacitor it tested ok. I tested the stator and had .7, .5 and .5 my meter has .3 ohms of resistance so that gives me .4, .2 and .2 what do you guys think? Sound like the stator or should I be looking at something else? Thanks in advance.

when checking the stator did you test between the yellow wires and to ground if you have no resistance to ground you look ok maybe check the chassis relay down by your pipe on the right hand side I had my display do the same thing

if the stator checks good then just replace the chassis relay I went down to napa and picked one up for alot cheaper than polaris just my opinion though

Checked the stator to ground and none of the wires grounded. I was reading a post in the archives on the chassis relay but it didnt really say you can test it is that possible or do you just replace and see if it takes care of it?

you can test the relay by energizing the positive terminal and grounding the negative terminal you then check for power or continuity on the other 2 terminals they are fairly inexpensive also I would bet yours is bad if you take it off sometimes you can see a melted teminal or some distortion/discoleration

I did some checking with the voltmeter and when the MFD was out and the Head lamp was really dim I only had 4.2 volts at the relay. I disconnected the handwarmers, thumbwarmer, kill switch, brake light switch, brake light, low oil sensor and no change. I checked the ground on the LH side and that was good. I wasnt able to get the relay unplugged when it was running to check that but I figured if I only had 4.2v the relay wasnt the problem. I shut it down plugged everthing back in and let it cool down. When I restarted it then I had full voltage and everything seemed fine. I checked voltage @ relay and it was 14v. I pulled the tank back off and checked a bunch of wires and couldnt find anything. Put tank back on and ran it again now I am down to 10.5v and the MFD goes blank and restarts when I switch from low to high beam.

Regulator

A friend of mine just took his to the dealer for this same problem and they said it's the regulator and it is on order. We will be testing it next weekend. If it is the regulator you don't want to run it that way because it will fry your ECU.

Here's what his sled was doing.
Display would go out if the brights and warmers were all on.
charging power when display was working would drop down to 2 bars.
Headlights were dim.

We ruled out the stator being the problem since it has already been replaced.

I'll let you know if the regulator solved the problem later in the week.

Anyone know if I can test the stator output with the engine running? I have a couple of old fuel filters laying around I could cut the hoses off and make some extended fuel lines to get the tank back enough to test where it plugs into the regulator. If this is possible what type of voltage should I be looking for? Thanks. I fogot to mention in my last post I did find one wire that was cracked and close to broken, it was the black wire on mag side coil. I cut it and spliced it with a heat shrink connector. Not the problem but a future problem solved. I also wiggled a bunch of wires around and I could see the light get dim a brighten back up again but I am not convinced that wiring is the problem because it would also do it when I wasnt touching anything. But I'll be the first to admit I COULD BE WRONG.

So I checked some more things today and now I am very confused. I checked the voltage regulator with my ohm meter and I checked for ground between the wires and ground the three yellow wires that go to the stator the meter shows they are grounded for about 2 or 3 seconds and then shows no ground. If I leave it for about thirty seconds and check it again it does the same thing shows ground then open. I unplugged the white 6 wire connector from the regulaor with 5 wires in it and checked that connector the red wire that goes to the chassis relay connector and that shows ground then open like the yellow wires. The red and white wire on the chassis relay does the same thing. I thought maybe the relay was stuck so I unpluged it and rechecked the wires but there was no change. So I put it back together and rode it today and the MFD showed full voltage all day, never went blank. But now my check engine light is blinking 3 times which should be the air temp sensor but I didn't even touch that. Any Ideas? Thanks
