06 RMK 600 w-Carls 660 overheating?

I recently purchased an 06 RMK 600 with Carls 660 kit in it an is a bugger to keep cool. It has a 2.5 151 track, SLP pipe with clutching. Primarily gets hot when going up the trail, but will also get warm in wet heavy snow. Is this normal, and if so what can one do to keep it cool.
I purchased this sled for my son, and son in law to ride and am concerned that they may not know what to look for when riding if it is getting warm.
What is the normal operating temperature this should run at, and what peak RPM should it run at? Currently it will peak out at 8500 to 8600 RPM's and will get as warm as 160 and up temperature wise. It will cool off quite quickly given the right conditions though.
Any help will be great. Oh by the way the sled flat out rocks.

126 is normal operating temps. Add a couple grams weight to the clutch. Install scratchers to keep temps down on the trails.

overheating

same sled same problem, we put a bikeman head on it and you can run down the trail at 105 degrees now , way better cooling, better performance.

Am going to contact Carl's on Monday and see what they suggest. But meanwhile a question for Gopher-it, where did you get your Bikeman head from?

This should be a 685 if it's Carls motor and an 06. You may want to remove the thermostat. The 2 685's in my group, the one without the thermostat runs a little cooler. I rode it last weekend with my 3 year old and the temps never got over 120'F on the trails with the scratchers down. Also, ice scratchers as mentioned are a must.

Instruct all your riders on the sled to watch the coolant temp. This is probably the funnest sled I've ever ridden. FUN!

Carls did make the 660 in 06, check the throttle side of the head for 660 it would be engraved by the t stat.

I have a 685 in my 06 chassis, as mentioned, scratchers are a must on this chassis. My normal watertemps are 128-133 degrees. The wifes iq with a 600 and scratchers runs the same temps. Her iqr with a 685 and Ve tunnel with a double pass cooler runs 120-130 consistently.

I don't know if the bikeman head is worth the $, his stuff has never really done it for me performance wise.

Thanks for all the info. guys. Have been looking at sled and noticed the front radiator has been removed. I am not sure if it was done correctly though. I was looking on SLP site and seen their removal kit and what it consists of and noticed it came with a flow restrictor. I wonder if this has been installed in this sled? When I rev the engine I can see the coolant burbling back into the bottle which might be telling me the majority of the flow is just circulating through the motor and back into the bottle. Don't know for sure but just a thought.

This very well may be the case. We didn't use the restrictor from SLP on ours.
