06 - m7 clutch issues rk - tec secondary

I have a 06 - m7 153 and did a few clutch mods. Took it out this weekend and have an initial shift problem. Primary clutch - 70 gram adjust wt, cat m8orange primary spring , secondary - stock helix, rk - tec secondary with the stock white secondary spring.

The clutch does not engage until I reach approx. 5000 rpm and it hits hard. After the initial engagement, it up shifts and back shifts ok with a max rpm of 8100 at approx 8000 feet elevation. The belt is adjusted with little belt deflection at the point of sqealing.

Is my primary clutch weight too light ????

Any help appreciated.

I run 68 gram with the orange primary spring in a 06 m7. Enguagement is about 4800rpm. If your not happy with the engusgement try running a softert spring, maybe the gold primary spring. How are you running the stock secondary spring with the rktec helix. That kit is ment to run a torsoin spring not a compression spring.

With the new rkt secondary kit i belive that you can still run the a compression spring! Also if i were you i would try the yellow/white primary sprirng and that will help lower the engagement!

I am currently running the stock white secondary torsional spring in the secondary. I do not believe the engagement issue is a secondary problem but a poor primary spring choice. I will try a different lighter primary spring or better yet put the stock one back in .

Just do not know why there are lots of recommendations in other threads to use a orange m8 primary spring. Perhaps you have to use a heavier wt with the m8 spring.

Have you done any power adders? Seems like you have too much spring in the primary? Try the stocker again, also isn't peak shift rpm on a stock motor (assuming yours is) about 7800-7900? Sounds like your start and finish rate on the primary is too high to me, but not like I know any/everything lol :face-icon-small-hap

I tend to agree with you that it is too much spring and the stock spring must go back in. I thought 8050 rpm was a little high. Motor is stock with no bolt on power adders. Did not think there was much to add unless you play with the head or the pistons.

Read too many pipe/can trials that did not work so I guess it stays stock.

BTW What is a SNOW PRO GREEN ??? is it a secondary green torsional spring made by snow pro ???

Thanks for all your help and suggestions.

Green spring

Think he means the Cat green spring, part# 0748-025, which is the original driven spring in the older Sno Pro 440`s (torsional secondary).
I use this spring on my M8 with RKT secondary, lots of backshift.

Running the stock secondary sprin g defeats the reason for running the rktec secondary. Get the snow pro green spring, it made a huge differance in my sled. Try the gold spring in the primary. You could also call kelsey at rktec he has been vey helpful with a ny question that I have had.

When you see posts of people saying to run the M8 orange spring in an M7, they mean in the secondary, not the primary. That is if you stick with the stock helix.

If I am not mistaken, these motors make peak torque at 7800rpm and peak HP at 8000rpm. If you clutch so that it runs at 7800 when you are loading it and then it goes to 8000 on the flat you should be good.
