Any info on rebuilding the clutch on this sled? It is rode on the trails only. primary is froze up. How hard is it to rebuild? Any special tools needed for putting the bushings in? Any help would be greatly appreciated..

you need a spider removing tool to totally disassemble and rebuild. also need a good clutch holder that clamps in vise or bolts to work bench. spider is torqued pretty tight i think 150ftlbs. also need feeler gauges to sent bushing clearance on the spider bushings and bushing drivers to replace the sheave bushings.

you will spend MORE on buying the tools then you would to send it to IndyDan ($125 plus parts) or SLP ($65 plus parts).

and they will completely clean, dissemble/rebuild, assemble and balance it.

do it right

The last one i had done cost 460 i about **** myself. at that price i can start buying my own tools..

I'm going to go with Guidoxpress on this one. You will be far better off to send it to Dan. Your clutch will be balanced and machined perfectly. If you buy the tools yourself for a one time job and spend $200 on them with the shipping plus parts you are still going to need to send the clutch off the get balanced afterwards if you don't want your sled to shake like a Harley and eventually break the crank.

I like to see what iam getting for my money. Not that i wasnt impressed with my clutch not saying that at all. But there are alot of things people can do for themselfs, I enjoy tinkering with my sled also there is the pride of doing it! Just wondering why people wont give pointers and help so a person can do there own work. Some of you guys must have endless money if you can just send it to someone else to do all your clutch work. i have 4 kids 9 sleds how can i send them all out at 460 apiece thats 4140.00. For all the polaris tools i could save a slew of money.People need to make money but if people want to learn how to do it there self I think the gurus should let people learn about there own sled. All i got was in my words "Get" for 2 hrs heres your bill!!!

With 9 sleds to maintain, buying the clutch tools would certainly pay off if they cross over between most of your fleet. What you wont be able to do that Indy Specialties can is balance it properly... and that is critical on these sleds.

BIGDAWG gave you info on some tools, and the service manual has all the info you need to rebuild and service your clutches. There are several of us with both the 05 and 06 manuals if you are in need.

Why do you get "get that, buy this / that" responses? Because for the average dude... sending a clutch away for full service makes more sense than buying all the pricey tools. Especially when you take into account that you really should have it balanced properly by a pro anyways.

like Disco Dan stated.

you will not be able to balance your clutch, you will be able to do the rest of the rebuild needed yourself, but its not enough.

another thing..

1. if you have a fronzen clutch, your not taking care of it properly. They need to be cleaned, maintained every season.

2. if you spent $460 on a rebuild already...you either A.) got BURNED. B.) had a completely destroyed clutch that needed every part replaced on it. C.) should have told the person "rebuilding" it to eat it cause a new clutch is less that that

3. my advise to you...COMPLETELY clean your cluthes at least 1x mid season...always clean off any belt residue from the clutch faces, clean your belt every few hundred miles, and after each season, buy new clutch springs, check/replace weight bushings, check/replace buttons, do the same with your secondary.

Thanks for all the info.I wish I new how to balance them becouse if it is like a lawn mower blade or a tire balancer shoot i got one of those. But this balancing thing is like making money at fort knox it is all top secret. I dont know y unless it is that technical. i sure would like to see it once to form my own opinion. Heck I would pay to watch once!

Thanks for that nice read! Lots of info.. Still wondering about the balancing machine? There has to be a place to see one. The Renagade Hot power water washer new is not 6000 bucks i live in the town where they are made i got one for 450. used.

if your somewhat close to MN, indydan lives in Welch, MN...im sure he would let you see what it takes to do this. and en-lighten you on the task ;)

Some times it is best to go new
and it is hard to beat babbitts price too.
Even new needs setup! The clutch still needs to be broke down and set for belt clearance and best to balance too.
I do the same as Dan and the price is the same too.
