tryed asking in another guys post but didnt get much. ive got an 06 900 w/ 159, slp pipe, can and air box, and carls set up the clutching. was reading what some of you guys are turning for rpm's, and wanted to make sure im not turning mine to high. on a fairly deep powder day, maybe a little over a foot of new, doing some good hill climbs i am consistantly pulling 8,000 rpm's and 64 mph track speeds. on the same day, i had a max of 8200 on one pull. sled feels great and pulls hard all the way through, but dont want to over do it. any advice would be great.

Ya, you're a little too high.... ideal RPM for an 06 with SLP pipe is around 7800 RPM... above that the torque begins to fall off.

I would be interested to know the rest of the setup of how you're getting 64 mph.... what track length are you running?

its got the 159 track. its got stock gearing, and i would have to look at the reciepts from the guy i bought the sled from to get info on clutching. i will look tonight and see what i can find. so if i lower my rpm to 7800, how do you think that will effect track speed.

found the reciepts and it has a 140/240 R/BLK secondary spring, and stock helix.

Sounds like you need some heavier clutch weights on there. The higher the RPM you spin the 900 the greater your chance of breaking the crank. Never heard of anyone with track speed that high on one, maybe with a turbo. I was only turning about 48 mph before everything I am doing to my sled right now.

i cleared my recall before a climb to see what i was turning, and it came back with 64 mph, i thought that was high, so i went over to a more open climb were i could just watch the speedo, and i was hitting 61-62 mph. i guess i will have to check again next time i go out, and see what the speedo says. that same day, i was hi-marking my step dads 09 XP 163 by a good 50ft.

if i ad more weights to the clutch, will it need rebalanced?

What were the snow conditions when you hit that track speed? I think mine will do that on hard pack..lol

probably about a foot of new snow, wasnt light fluff, but wasnt wet heavy snow either.
