06-08 Polaris RMK 600 Reliability?

From my research, the consensus of the few threads I found was that these 600s are near bullet proof but wanted to get Snowest’s thought. And if there is anything I should specially look at on these sleds when I look at them?

I’m looking to get back into sledding and my budget is $2k-$3500. I rented a 18’ skidoo 600 146 sport last year and it was a perfect setup for my Mountian style riding at 8000’-10,000’ feet other than a bit short in the track.


I found an 08’ 600 RMK 155” with 700 miles that is suppose to be very clean and well taken care of. That one would be be about $2800.

I can't attest to the other brands, I owned a couple of 2008 rmk 600's that have somewhere between 4000-6000 miles of hard mountain riding. They haven't needed a single repair part and have even been slightly neglected from a maintenance viewpoint. Bulletproof! Yes! I still own a 2007 rmk 600 with only about 400 miles doesn't get ridden but I can't bring myself to get rid of it. If you can get an 09+, it's about the same thing but strong front bumper.

No the 700s where good also. The 800s are the ones to stay away from. One nice thing with the dragon rmk is that you can swap out the rear skid, track, arms, seat and a few other parts from a pro rmk to lighten them up.

Are all of the 06-10 chassis considered dragons or only the 800s with dragon in their name?

Stay away from the 700's through '07, those were the same as the junk 900's. 700 from 08+ is closer to the 800 with the reliability of the 600. You'd be hard pressed to find one that isn't beat up.
 
Bumped, sled is clean but it is a carburetor mode.... Is the general consensus to replace the fuel filter and voltage regulator on the 600s because they are the weak links in an other wise reliable sled?

I have an 06 600 and it runs on the first pull every time. Great sled. I've had one for about 7 years and it's been nearly flawless.
 
My 07 600, once I fixed the previous owners mistakes, has been great. Put a pro suspension under it. Helped it get up on snow better and saved 30 pounds. I was shocked how much the torsion spring suspensions weighed.

I also noticed a big improvement when I put a skid from a pro rmk under my 09. I also installed a track from a pro rmk which lightened it up even more.
