05 Rt Air Box

Took my outer box off, was tired of snow on outside cutting off the air. Just put fine mesh screen over inner intake. That way if out side plugs with snow you still draw from inside , warmer air but still runs fine

I hope that is some mighty fine screen---Better stop ALL that belt dust. check your throttle bodies and see how dirty they are--then the reeds.

Made that same mistake--cost a engine:eek:. And at BRP list--$6900.00.

Use the race air filter kit for the outer box.

It is very fine mesh, have to wipe off a bit of fine belt dust, from it after every, ride , throttle bodies I have checked several times and are clean or I would quit and try something else, been trying to figure a different filter system but is always in way of clutch guard, everything I tried on outer box, cut off air intake with snow. Had dealer check it out his only concern was it might be so fine of screen that may reduce air flow and not run as good but runs very good

Is the race filter kit that large piece of mesh that velcros over the outside , if it is , that was the last thing I tried before I took box off. Got tired of doing a nice powder climb and sled cuts out ,fine snow filn over screen and having to reach over all the time to try and keep it clean, was a bad set up from BRP from the beginning

timbersled kit

im running the timbersled kit and it works great for me. most guys are sayin that the stock inner box works better? i think ive still got mine and ill throw it on to see if theres any difference. i could see that you may have a colder charge with the inner and outer boxes gutted but the increased flow and weight saving may offset that. ive got a boondocker box with twins and have it tuned pretty well. i remember noticing a increase when i installed it, but that could have been "new mod" placebo...

intake

i ran a 06 rt last year, i had light weight panels on it and i got a fab shop to roll me a peice of alu. i put it in the end of the air box on the carbs and then i mouted a large k&n filter to it with the snowscreen on it. it worked great all last year. I think i still have the panels and filter in the shop. was not that loud. it sure took off alot of weight.

Yes it is. I have never had it cut out on me during a deep powder climb--but if you go to make a second climb--wipe it off. I guess it just is not that big of a deal to me because it is not cutting out on the pulls on me.

As long as the throttle bodies are clean--all is good.

Maybe the difference is my outer box is gutted?? Don't know.

Wasnt necessarily cutting all the time on every climb but even boondocking in deep powder was always wiping it off it seemed, also seemed, with the air draw always had snow sucked up against it, I did put mesh kits, on the side panels and also extra vents above motor in dash etc to try and keep it cooler under the hood seems to be working clutches are never hot, belts last forever, better than all the horror stories of the 07, 08 sleds. Heard 09 is coming out with the 1000 xp , might finally put the Rt to rest but shall have to see
