05 RMK 900's ?

Yeah...., I snow checked an 05 900 x 159, rode it 26 miles on the first day and needed a new set of plugs before I could get off the mountain.

After the first ride, I immediately hauled it into the shop, fit a lightweight cannister exhaust muffler, (tried two or three for that matter, with varying success). At this time I fabbed an aluminum clutch guard, a front drawing air-box, removed the rad and bypassed that circuit. I got rid of that original primary clutch ASAP, as the shift weights contacted on the spider as they shifted out...???? Did some gearing and clutching changes. I threw away any excess plastic crap.

Results= a much better sled that was drasictally better in performance, but now it was destroying belts with a feverish hunger...

More shop time, worked on engine mounts and torques stops, tried different mufflers again....., played with some high performance crap...

Results= getting there with the belt issues, but it was an ordeal. High performance bolt on's were crap, all the testing proved time and again the stock pipe was best, at least for our elevation, I found gains at lower elevations with the SLP, but not above 6500 ft..... different silencers worked better than others. Tried a lot of chit....

Overall the sled kicked *** above most others of the breed, and over a lot of other sleds out there, it has surprised more than a few, it far surpass's the sterotyped reputation.

The first engine broke a crank at around 3300 miles, Polaris came good with a "no cost warranty repair" on the "2nd year snow check" engine deal.

Since the engine overhaul in the spring of 06, the old 900 has been quite reliable.

Best gains were, .....I pulled back the rear skid about two inchs, (shortened the back of the rails), new rear mounts, (improved the attack angle on the track), instaled sctrachers, added all the steel track clips, removed all excess idler wheels.... Run the front shock of the rear skid in the lower, laid down position, ....rebuild the Ryde FX gas shocks every season, I run 10w oil in the front IFS shocks and the rear skid shock, 5w in the middle, with 200 lbs of nitrogen all around.

I look after the essentials, I maintain it, I check it over before each ride, lube the skid, and top up the always leaking chain case...., but it has nearly 8000 miles on it today, and it still ..... FLAT OUT HAULS, ...it KICKS ***, ..... AND OCCASSIONALLY TAKES NAMES, ......lol

They're not all that bad............., how many sleds on this forum have 8000 miles on them????, Deep powder, Revy mountain riding, trail breaking miles on them....., and still rock everyday like the "OLD HIGH MILER" LOL..

Rock on Polaris 900 RMK's
