05 RMK 900 with broken crank

I'm looking for suggestions when rebuilding the 05 RMK 900. I have another 05 bottom end. Can I have the crank welded where it tapers down at clutch ? I don't want the crank to break again. Do I need to buy a Manuel for rebuilding bottom end or is there info some where? :faint:

Here is the service manual for your 05.
I think you should either consider the Polaris upgraded crank and clutch package, or an Indydan bottom end... all depending on your budget. But either way, your going to want to have your cases checked after a crank failure as well. Good luck, I'm sure this isn't what you wanted to hear sorry

Sell it, give it , dont fix it

I bought one new, rode it for three years before the crank broke, spent thousands with indy dan and local dealer to get it back together. I have scars from some of the work. Did port/polish/intake/pipe/cooling vents/motor mounts/arctic cat 33 mm clutch/weights/springs/boondocker box/egt dual temp box/ -------------bottom line, biggest waist of money I have EVER spent... Got 3 grand tradeing it in on a pro rmk, best day of my life. NEVER did it run right, and it was way to heavy. Broke and broke again.... sell it now for nothing, thats my advise, GOOD advise

replaced broken crank on my 900 last winter, and it was the best money spent. it is great fun to take these sleds everywhere the new ones go, and then out climb them when you get there. these 900s have torque like no other. they just pull and pull.
plus the extra 2,000 bucks i put into my 9 was still thousands less than a new pro. every sled has its issues, and these are no exception. but if you put a little work into them, they can be an awsome sled for years. not everyone has the $11,000 to fork out for a new sled. just my 2 pennys.

so to answer your question. there is an updated crank kit that you can get from polaris for about $1,000. it comes with new completely assembled 32mm crank, new 32mm clutch and bolt, new belt, and all gaskets and seals. as said above you will need your cases checked, as well as balancing your new clutch. then put it all back together.
or you can buy the above kit, and send it to Indydan for a TM1. he takes your new crank and adds the 3rd bearing to the pto end for added strength, fits it to your cases, then puts the bottom end all back together for you. he also balances the clutch for you as well.
lots of threads at the top of this forum. read them over and over again, and you will learn lots. Then read them again:face-icon-small-win

Hmmm, bought my 05 900 new in 06. Has never broke down, has the original crank.

crank

Mine ran great for years with the stock crank, 975 and nitrous. I would check your mounts balence the clutch and use your stock crank, save the money.

That is the advice you'll probably get from Indy Dan because it's exactly what he told me a few weeks ago. Mind you my crank wasn't broken but it's still the stock 05 small crank. The only thing Dan would probably add is change out the helix because the stock set up is Crap and actually adds to the crank problem.

What is a better helix to use and where can you get it?

The most reccomended here on the forum is the 66-44ER .46/66-42ER .46. I beleive the ER is for electronic reverse which I'm sure you have and want to keep. I got mine from Western Power Sports (WPS) through my father in law whos a dealer for them. You should be able to go to just about any motorcyle or snowmobile shop and they'll be set up as a dealer fro WPS. WPS part number for the helix is 30-420494 and it retails for $103. Very easy to install too...takes about 15 minutes. You can also order them directly from Team Industies too who is the manufacturer.

the helix reccommended above will work fine...you will trench more IF you have a long track..but if u are a flast lander its the one you should get...

if you have a long track 159/166, you should get the 58/46/46 ER helix ;)

look on ebay as well, you can look under skidoo helixs as well as they are the same ;)
