05 rev 800

Any of you have thoughts ont these sleds. Am looking at one next week and am not too familiar with the good and bad of these sleds. Any info to look for would be appreciated. How were the motors? Thanks

05 Rev

I vote good. I bought an 05 in December with around 3500 miles on it. Both crank seals went out 300 miles later but I think it was due to the previous owner Never cleaning his clutches and numerous blown belts. I had pieces of belt all over the engine compartment and tons of belt dust in the air box when I rebuilt the engine. Runs very strong now.

Look for:

Delaminated carb boots

If not updated to dual ring pistons and caged wrist pin bearings, DO IT!

No real way to check for crank seals, but after my experience, check for black greasy film behind the primary. The isoflex will begin to seep out once the seal starts to go.

Good luck, it's a great sled and runs strong.

Love mine.
Needs piston rings if it has not had the update. May as well install new pistons while it is apart. 06 pistons were good ones. Doo did this as warrenty work but some never got done. Change carb boots.
Depending on condition $4500 US is a fair price. I have seen them from 4000-5000 depending on track length, miles and condition.

does Doo make a double ring piston or do you have to go aftermarket and if so which ones are the most preferred

Aftermarket for double ring. Depends on who you talk to. Double VS Single ring.

Winter Brew says single ring. Big John says double ring. Both guys know their stuff.

The 06 single ring OEM is a good set-up that will not give you any problems.

Some guys like the MGB (I think it was MGB) something like that. Dual ring.

Dino(Tackbatch) likes the dual ring. Pm him for which piston he uses. Good ones I am sure.

I just got one this season it had 1400 mi when I got it for 4200 its a renegade. I have 2000 miles on it now and have had 0 problems with it except if I dont use ski doo oil it fouls plugs like crazy. I just rebuilt the primary cause it was making noise at about 1800 miles cost me about 220 bucks with a puller. I love this sled though I never have to mess with it on a ride. Just pull it and go!!

The 05 was the year they switched to the chrome rings, If you are looking at an x model you prolly need new rings, but for an 05 for that matter, I would recommend a fresh top end. 1 or 2 rings... I think the 1 ring piston works fine.
The carb boots are a real problem, although the guys at Martin equipment deny that, you can see it is apparent on all the posts in the forums.
The boards are kinda soft and bendy, and a lot are in need of replacement.
If the motor has more than 3500 km, I would replace the top end. I went to 5200 and she blew. I had to put a new block in.
Ski spindle bushings go fast on these sleds, but that is mostly because of no initial lubrication.
Seats are kinda low IMO, a boss seat is the ticket.
