05 900 rmk reliability

It's a toss up. Some have seen 4000 miles without a hitch. My sled was around 2500 and it needed a new top end. Some people have twisted the pto end right off of the crank. The big thing is to stay on top of maintenance. Get the slp push/torque arms, Compfusion engine mounts, 115 belt, clutches balanced, and vents. Everything there will eliminate or at least greatly help a lot of the problems the 900's were experiencing.

I trust the bottom end more than some. I have the above done and I am putting a big bore kit and nitrous on the stock bottom end.

Just my .o2

wonderin what the reliability is on the 900s crankwise i can overlook the weight as long as the engines reliable.

You just need to do a few things to help prevent a problem from occurring like nmmiles said and re-torque your primary a few times to 96 ft lbs and then ride it.

I have almost 2k on mine without a problem. I have also done some mods to mine though. I do have the extra stops, the vents, only run the good belt and I retourque the clutch reularly. The radiator delete and change the pipe and can will releive some of the weight issue and also lightens up the front end to eliminate the diving issues that some had. I love my 900 and would say it is the best sled I have owened so far. I would not have anything other than this chassis now. Also new skis make a world of difference. I run powder pros and they work great. Simple maintainence and these sleds are a blast to ride. Power is NOT an issue ever. Good luck and enjoy the new sled.

i second that. i love my nine and my brother liked it so much after riding it once he bought one too.

stay away! unless its dirt cheap like 2k. your asking for trouble

Thanks for your awesome input:rolleyes:

I sold my 900 with 3500 almost trouble free miles on it
But I made sure the maintainace was done after every trip west sometimes I wish I could get that old 9 back again :(

Well said! I love my 900. It has been rock solid, but it is 4 years old and time for a new one. I will miss it though. Runs strong and has never even thought about leaving me stranded.

Only one thing to do: Balance your primary clutch. There's a lot of other helpful things like venting your side panels and torque stops/arms, which I do not use. Check intake boots and exhaust valves for leaks. These two shouldn't leave you stranded but they will effect the way it runs. Catch the intake boots before they break open though! You can check exhaust valves for leaks by holding your hand over the hole in them and feeling for air blowing out of them. If you feel air, buy a cheap exhaust bellow/diaphragm for it. They are easy to replace. Good luck. I love my 900 but I have 5 seasons, can you say "soon to be 6," on it and am looking for an IQr project build. I will miss it unless I keep big ol' thing for my girlfriend.

bad cranks

we had two 05 900's. One crank snapped at 1600 miles and one snapped at 1800. I don't care how much maintenance you do, these cranks are bad. that's why polaris designed a new and bigger crank for these engines. If you spend alot of money and time on that sled you can make a decent sled out of it. But you better like fixing stuff and spending money. I would stay away from one unless it's really cheap and you like a chanllenge.

05 900

I have only put 400 miles on mine bought it last spring. I love it so far. I have had it tore apart all summer doing what I could afford. But I bought it real cheap. And I enjoy working on it. I would buy it again as long as it was cheap.
