1.) First, the cable at the throttle-lever .... There is an e-clip holding the cable housing to the throttle housing, which prevents the cable from sliding back out. Do I need to keep this e-ring to be used with the new throttle cable? It appears to be kind of a PITA to get off of there and I dont have one of the special tools for removing an installing them. Do I need to get one of those?
- YES you need the "c clip"..i used a scribe to pull it out, and of coarse i managed to lose it, but they are easily found at ACE hardware, lol..and when you install it back in, i used needlenose and pushed as far as it would go in..then used a flat head screwdriver to push it till it clipped on the cable..hey it worked..
2.) Once I go to take the oiler/throttle cable off at the throttle body, any tips you can give me there? Do you just follow the service manual to make sure that you're getting the correct range of motion with the oil injector pump? Getting the throttle cable adjusted on the throttle bodies I am not worried about but I wanna make damn sure that oil injection pump is working properly
there is a GREAT CD that claude sends with the cable, and its very detailed..WITH PICTURES and tells you step by step...but no real tips for taking the throttle bodies off, just being cafeful and looking for cracks, reed damage, ect..when i was in there, i went ahead and changed the oil filter..when you install the cable on the oil pump, its pretty cut and dry and yes its a PITA to line up the small lines on the pump lever and pump housing..took me several tries to line it up right..there is a SMALL hole in the cross bar in front of the engine that has a hole dead center to the oil pump, and you look through that and line the marks up..then tighten, then look,, re-tighten..and so on..took me a few tries but simple enough..
i am not sure if it will help or not, but i also covered my throttle bodies with some heat tape..just to see if the heat from the pipe would not crack my boots..??..was just a thought
