04 KK miss

I have an 04 King with an ongoing problem thats about to drive me off the deep end. It has a miss at about 7000 rpm and up on flat ground and all the time on a hill. I have cleaned the carbs (twice) replaced the plugs, wires, and end caps. It also has a completely different bottom end, crank and ignition from an unrelated problem. I tried a different coil and checked the grounds. I have also eliminated the kill button from the loop. It doesnt have a key switch. It sounds like an electrical miss to me but I'm open to any ideas. I'm sure its something simple and I'm just not seeing it:mad:

Have you checked out your power valves? They are supposed to open at about 6800 rpms. If they are dirty or sticky and don't operate correctly they will act very close to a miss. Your engine power will fall off very badly above 7000 rpm. Check them out.

Woodtick is probably right about the power vales giving problems, possible a broken cable. If they check out, check the reeds and try changing plugs.

The powervalves was one of my next tries. I was just going to try to wire them open to see if it made a difference. I've rotated 3 sets of plugs, a new set and two old sets that I had without any change. The reeds look to be in good shape with no chips. They are v force 3's, will they do that while looking okay? Thanks for the replies!

It sounds like you have already eliminated this but try a little dab of dielectric grease on top of each spark plug and put the caps back on. I have had more than one of these sleds develop a miss that sounds a lot like yours and was just the caps not making good contact. Also make sure the caps are screwed on tight to the plug wires.

I forgot to take dielectric grease when I went up to the mountain:mad: But I wired the powervalves open with no change and I tried a different C.D.I. with no change. Could the tps cause this?

you know...this is probably stupid...but a friend of mine went through headaches chasing an electrical problem on the ole 900 and it turned out to be a kinked gas line under the air box...

At this point nothing is stupid... any ideas are helpful, I've run completely out. Thanks

Had a kinked gas line last ride. Ran fine till I had it wide open for about 5 seconds then it ran out of gas and died. Not really a miss.
