The new filter should come with a new "O" ring. I like the Filter from the dealer nicer than the after market ones I have seen. Becarful when you screw the filter lid back on it is a very fine thread. Like skidoo159 said it tords the fire wall on the drivers side, The lid is plastic and has a big square bung sticking up. Almost an inch square.

VERY easy to do. On my '05 and '07, it's like a six minute job. Don't over tighten it, though. On mine, they were both 1 1/8 inch sockets, I believe....

after you change it out, just bump the starter (just slightly turn the motor over without it firing, then you should be able to hear the lift pump run for about 30 seconds which will purge all the air outta the system and it should fire right up!

You definitely should change it... I change mine everytime I do a service. The nine bucks is cheap insurance, and it's very easy to change out.

I do mine everyother oil change (every 10K) and as stated before you can get a new canister filter down to 5 micron (10 is factory) some aftermarket setups are now down to 2 micron, debris and small particles are what causes the majority of injector failures on the HPCR motors. When the filer is out be sure to drain the canister, more than likely there will be a bunch of junk at the bottom of it!
