04 900 Driveshaft bearing failure

Today my bearing seized on the opposite side of the chain case. The bearing flange blew up and the drive shaft torqued taking out the other side bearing and chain case. One drive sprocket was damaged.

Anyone else have a similar issue? I am going to tear it down tom, hope i do not find more damage.

Common issue with these model cats - did it actually take out the bearing on the chain case side? It the driveshaft wore through and you're leaking oil then it's toast, but mine was fine even after riding on it for an hour.

Luckily I just swapped out the bad track drivers for an upgraded extro and haven't had any problems since. There was a little wear from the driveshaft but it didn't affect the bearing sealing.

I gotta ask, where have you been for the last couple of decades? The bearing at the speedo drive has always been prone to failing. You have to keep them greased. I do mine every couple hundred miles and have over 3000 miles on it and it is still tight and good. The grease is more to push moisture out than the actuall need for more grease.

I have one in the shop right now same thing only cracked the chain case cover took out the chain and lower gear the bearing galled the drive shaft end, had to cut the bearing inner race off and buggered up the shaft so he rode it like that for a while (how he didn't notice this I don't know should of been hell on his left foot) those shafts aren't cheap looking like $650 in damages.:face-icon-small-con

The one thing to watch for is, if the speedometer quits working, the bearing is shot. The drive key sheares because the shaft is moving around.
