I am thinking about buying a 04 800 159, Its a Snow checked highmark extreme with 2800 miles on it and the top end was redone less than a 1000 miles ago. What should I look for before I buy it. Any info would be great.

Any front end damage(bent parts) cracked carb boots, also might think about getting crank bearings repacked.

I think the '04 had a problem with the rings flaking...I would ask the seller if the sled has had any top end work done. x2 on the carb boots and regrease the crank bearings. If the crank bearings haven't been greased recently it would be a great summer project...along with some new rings!

2,800 miles is about time to check/replace both clutch springs, bushings in the spring cap and primary, O rings and buttons. You might consider D^J clutch kit www.mxzx-revzone.com while you're at it. An up graded clutch will make that sled run hard.

Thats gettin close to where cranks start going out. As said above could make a great summer project or make for a stressful/spendy sled that you got more than you bargained for. But over all they are great sleds. Check carb boots and maybe even replace with boyseen reeds.

Thanks for all the info. It had a top end done 500 miles ago, and the primary clutch was just rebuilt 50 miles ago. But I dont think that anything has been done with the crank.

I have 4,900 on mine and not one issue. Going to put 06 oe pistions in this summer and a team secondary clutch and boss seat. Thats my summer project, one more year on it.

The 04 is trash!

Before anyone says other wise here is the history of my 04, 2 Motors and 3 Rebuilds in 5,xxx miles. The original motor split a rod in half and put it threw the block in 100 miles. Right now it sits with a hole threw the mag side Cudney piston.

The 04 800s had problems with the pistons (should have dual rings), the Y-Pipe cracks, the Y-pipe bolts vibrate and eventually come out, the oil pump is know to stick open, the carb boots crack, the thing is terrible on oil and gas, the gas gauge is worthless, the fuel filters wear quickly.

I have more miles on my truck from taking my sled back and forth to the dealer than I do on the sled and I can't even begin to imagine how many days I have spent working on this thing. Not all 04s are this bad, but I know I will NEVER recommend one to anyone...Try to find a decent 06.

Just because you had a bad one doesn't mean they are pure junk. Maybe you should look at getting someone else to work on it cause it should stay togather longer then that if done right.

Don't get the faults impression that the 06 pistons will be better. I have had to fix more 06 motors than 04 an 05. SKI-DOO pistons are just junk no matter what year.

Well I bought the 04. Put 500 miles on it of mountain riding. It has ran amazing. My brother has a XP 800 154 and it will run right with it. The only problem I found is that it likes trees just as well as my old sled

Ignore this guy. He's posted this on more than one thread.
I've got an 04 800 with the 159" track and that thing amazes me. There was some issues with flaking rings apparently, so I took it to my mechanic before I bought it. He checked it out and said everything looked great. Also as Pureadrenaline mentioned, the Y bolts did come loose but because I do regular maintenance I found these before they fell out....a little Loc-tite and good to go. Mine is completely stock except for a can and it keeps up with everything I've ridden with so far. 3500 kms and going strong. I'd recommend it.

I have an 04X with a 159" track and love it. Just do the regular maintance on the machine and you will have no worries. I do ride it hard in the mountains and on the 5ft plus deep powder days.

LMAO.. These Threads always make me laugh my butt off..

When it comes down to it.. Every Rev sled has had its problems. Simply take care of it and have someone that KNOWS WHAT THE HELL THEY ARE DOING work on it and it will give you many days of fun on the hill! I know people with 04's, 05's, 06's 07's that have had problems.. Good luck!

Yes ignore me because I am not blinded by brand loyalty and tell the truth...:thumb:

i ride an 05 rev 800 151 and my father rides a 04 rev 800 151. both of these sleds flat out rip, we keep them stock, and they take really good care of us. between the two of us, we've put on about 4k miles on these sleds. regular check-ups are good.. we clean our clutches after every ride, check bolts and things. i think you'll be extremely happy with that sled!

my 04 800 X

My 04 800 X 144 was bought new and has over 4000 miles ,here in Manitoba and many trips west to BC , never had a failure.
My fall project involved tearing down the motor which I did last week , new pistons (.095 - .010 clearance) going to put a reman crank assy in , gaskets and put another 4000 miles on it.

Clutches have been maintained ,replaced both carb boots last year. kills me to hear how some have had the Y pipe bolts come out ,what a pian in the ... getting them out.

I enjoy the sled ,never owned one this long.
