04 800 Missing

hey guys

i have an 04 800 that just started acting up. The sled ran good out of the parking lot. pulled 8000 rpms and all was fine. As the day went on kept loosing RPM got to where it yould only pull about 6500 got nervious and headed to the truck. just kept getting worse and worse until at full throttle the sled would miss and backfire.. only about 4000 RPM. Weird thing is it runs fine at idle. Kind of acts like the teather is not connected completely. Thinking that it is an electrical issue but not sure where to start? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

PS. Special thanks to the polaris rider who pulled me out.

I would have to ask when the last time you took the clutches apart and checked them for worn parts or just plane dirty clutches

compression check?? could be alot of thing, you need to chech the easy things first???

I agree with summit800, there is a laundry list of things it could be ( tether not making good conection, plugged jet or fuel filter, bad coil, wires or spark plug boots , etc. ) definatly check all the easy and obvious things first.

My buddie has a 00 700 summit and his did sort of the same thing last year and it ended up being a bad stator.

Thanks guys
starting with the clutches today. Secondary looked good, cleanded anyway. Primary same thing. Going to pull carbs tomorrow and clean/check. Clutches not problem as the sled wont rev with no load(ie primary removed...Should rev like a crazy). Broke the recoil starter today. Motor was rebuilt about 900 miles ago dont think that is the problem but i will check compression anyway. Next project is the recoil i guess...

Ok so here is what happened....... The nut that holds the flywheel fell off and caused the timing to become retarded, or advanced. That is what was causing the missing. Worst part is that it also ruined the flywheel and the mag end of the crank. Bummer......Any suggestions on a good crank shop in montana????

Sea Doo, reman crank...$600...sealed bearings, no use of isoflex. Just installed one on our 06 800. nice setup. Hope our 04 800 holds up the rest of this season as we will doo the crank and pistons this summer. Dino
