04 700 rmk sounds like a VW?

My 04 700 RMK Temp/detonation light is on solid and there is no power it sounds like a VW motor. both cylinders are firing and it runs on each cyl when each plug wire is off. I will do a compression test and want to know how to test the det sensor? any ideas?

A solid light means you have a temp issue, a Flashing light means you have detonation issues. Your computer is going into protection mode. Is it like that when the engine is cold or does it take a few minutes to come on? You may have a cooling issue if it only comes on after engine is hot. If its on all the time even when the engine is cold first thing I would do is check or replace your temp sensor they are pretty cheap.

Thanks Boxter. checked the compression today 110#'s in each cyl.
the light is on when cold or warm and it's solid I'll check the temp sensor first.

If you have a buddy with a 700 or 800 you could swap the temp sensors and see if it runs. Hopefully its just the sensor because that would be an easy fix. If you want to test your sensor you can check the resistance, however you have to do this while heating it in boiling water. You will need a volt meter with a Ohms setting and a thermometer. Here are the values it should read at diff temps.
68F: 2189-2675 Ohms
149F: 455-556 Ohms
203F: 197-240 Ohms
239F: 120-147 Ohms
275F: 77-94 Ohms

Or you can get a new one for $20 and skip the hassel.

The temp sensor was bad, replaced it and all's good.
