03 RX-1 with Bender Turbo elec prob?

Do they have a habit of consuming plugs? To replace them its 80 miles one way for a set or I order them and have 'em UPS'ed.

My experience with plugs is they usually either work or they don't work. You may foul one that will act funny but all four at once? Unlikely.

They do tend to go through plugs if you let it idle too long with the choke on. I have only had this happen once but when it did my sled ran like crap.

Yes, plugs tend to either work or not, but they don't all go bad at the same time. You prolly only have one or two that are bad.

Turns out it was a cracked exhaust pipe. Sent it to Bender and they sent back a new one. I guess they had to re-engineer it. Not back together yet.

Did you buy your exhaust parts from Bender or Full Power Performance (Justin Fuller)?

OK. When I loaded it last spring to haul it in I had to drag it in the trailer it ran so badly. It wouldn't move. Yami dealer called and reported they found a broken exhaust pipe between the motor and the turbo. We sent the broken pipe to Bender maybe? Can't remember. Anyway the sled finally was put back together and I picked it up in Novemeber. Took it out for a quick shot and it seemed OK but no extended run as we didn't have any snow to speak of. So today I took it for a ride. Same B.S. again. Runs like crazy to 100+ and then falls on its face. Boost guage is registering flat lines. Frustrated. Called the dealer and it is going back in but I am already into these guys for $900 and it doesn't work.

Looking back through the thread I must have had a couple threads going last year. This problem started the same way last year and progressively got worse until it wouldn't move. They fixed the pipe, now it will move and seems to pull real hard for about 10-20 seconds, stumbles hard, let off, it will recover and go again....for 10-20 seconds.

RPM issue

Pull the intercooler and run it up, see if you get the rpms up and then shut it off, dont run it to long. If you get it to run proper like that then Pm me and we will go from there.

good luck,

Ron

Are you thinking to run it without the intercooler on a stand? The RPM's come up OK and it pulls harder than it would without the turbo but then stumbles. I am beginning to think I had two problems. The exhaust (repaired) and fuel. It would explain why it would run hard and then lose power. One thing that bugs me is the boost gauge shows no boost. It did the first time I ran it to the gas pump. I filled it with AV gas. Do you know anyone in MN that specializes in these sleds?

Thanks, Bill

Gas issue

I've seen intermitent issues with the fuel pump, try replacing it.
I've also had muy vacuum lines crossed eg boost line's.
good luck with it.

Thoughts/suggestions:

1. Is your turbo spining freely & wastegate set correct
2. Take off your carbs and clean out all jets - make sure they are not loose
3. Take off your airfilter and do a pressure test on the comp.side - and fix all air leaks;)
4. Set fuel pressure to 4,5-5 psi at idle
5. What float bowls do you have - if not updated mountain version - could you be running out of fuel going WOT?
6. Make 100% sure that the relay and wire to to fuel pump is good
7. Install a wideband to determin if your are going lean or rich
8. Install the airfilter outside - so you don't feed the engine with hot and moist. air
9. Make sure the you don't have any kinks in the fuel lines - and vacum lines to fuel pressure regulator
10. Arching coils

Good luck - hope you figure out what is going on:beer;

Turbo is working fine. I got the gauge operating and it reads 12 on high boost. It runs perfctly until it stumbles. The harder I push it the harder it stumbles. Has to be fuel. Nothing has been changed or screwed with as far as I know. I will check with the dealer to see if they winterized it as they had it all summer. It runs real hard for 20 seconds at WOT and then shuts down. Once it shut off. It restarted no problem. So it is getting plenbty of fuel for 20 seconds. Can't be the carbs as it wouldn't run that long. I am having a hard time believing there is enough fuel in the system for a pump tpo be bad too. It may be a vent issue? Suck hard on the gas tank but no/little venting and it would do exactly what it is doing?

Mine gets moisture in the spark plug caps if I don't silicone them to the valve cover. It did the exact same thing yours is doing and I chased my tail around for a couple months. My plugs were rusty from having so much moisture in them.

It was fuel. The guys that put in the new exhaust pipe were trying to be helpful and switched on the OEM pumps. For whatever reason that was the issue. After looking the fuel system over I could see that the line that feeds the electric pump supplied by Beneder came off prior to the split that feeds the smaller OEM pumps. Didn't make sense to have fuel going both ways so I flipped the valves off that feed them and everything is cool. I have a small coolant leak but I am running one more day before messing with it some more. Right now we have 2-3 feet of soft snow on the lakes with lots of slush. F Cat suspension and studs underneath. I can just break 120 mph on the speedo while cutting a trench through this stuff. Like riding on a huge pillow. We have 100's of miles of lakes, one after the other.

Tomorrow we go to Atikokan Ontario. 65 miles one way through the bush for a pizza!!
