recently rebuilt chaincase, new gears and chain, started to rachit after about 500kms, also this is the 2nd time around, chaincase adjustment looks okay, track tension seems okay, its got me fuced?

what is causing the chain to keep loosing tension?

cheers in advance

whats ratcheting? the drivers or the chain? what tooth are the gears. if chain tension is good it shouldnt be the gears and if they did id imagine that it would destroy something.

It is more likely that your track is ratcheting, if the tension is good, I would be looking at the drive lugs on the track. My 07 has some torn ones and will occasionally ratchet no matter how tight the track is.

If it is the chain case, a new chain and gears will stretch and wear enough to need periodic adjustment.

Another cause of chain case issues could be a bearing going out, but the chaincase side bearing out is not common.

I agree with ski, Check the drive shaft bearing on the clutch side also. I have seen them go bad causing the drivers to ratchet. The quy just kept tightening the track. When I checked the bearing, the bearing was gone and the drive shaft had cut a 1" path 2" long in the bulkhead and tunnle.

I just had my bearing come apart on the tensioner. I had to keep adjusting it until I took the chaincase apart and noticed it had come apart. All the needle bearings had let go but the bearing race would still spin. Had to replace the tensioner.

it sound to me like you our getting it to tight in the first place, with getting it to tight it will keep stretching the chain until it brakes and can take out the bearing in the chain tensioner noted in boxster7614 reply
proper tension is by hand turn the ajuster srew in until it stops back out 1/2 turn and lock.
also check the bearing on the speedo side if it is out it can make problems in the chain case too.

I have a whole bulkhead and tunnel from a guy who did this in my backyard. The shop just gave it to me incase I did something to mine

Look at the teeth on both sprockets. They may be wearing down due to overtightening the chain. Each tooth must be symmetrical, or replace the sprocket. Check for wear on the chain as well. The top bearing will go at least 6000 miles without replacement. If you have bad bearing in the bottom, you probably cannot keep oil in the chaincase. Are you losing oil as well? If you have bad bearings on either the crank or the driveshafts, you will notice a loss of power, aka sluggishness.
