03 800 m/c clutch

hey i want to replace my spring primary clutch , now does it have to come right off , do i need to pull it right off , or just the end plae with the 10 screws come off then the rest come off , any help!!

Can be done when mounted to the crank. But you will have to come up with some sort of compression tool to suck the cover back down on the clutch. I wouldn't suggest pulling it down with just the first couple threads on the cap screws. You could easily strip them out. But yea it can be done.

Also make sure you use some alignment marks on the cover so you can put it back on the same way. The clutch is ballanced and if you look you will see a set of marks on the cover, movable sheeve and fixed sheeve. These all need to line up when you put it back together.

Like mentioned above, it can be done with the clutch on the sled. I have had to do it while out riding, because of a broken spring. If you have or can borrow the proper puller it is better to pull the clutch and do it that way. With the clutch off, it is a good time to inspect the spider, rollers, weights, etc and clean it.

It can be done on the sled, I just did it and replaced the weights. It was a pain in the you know what as i had to take a block of wood and space the belly pan out as far as I could for clearance. It was time consuming to tighten all the bolts!
