My truck has been quiting on me the past couple of weeks. Usually within the first ten minutes of driving it. It will either sputter or completly die. Then turn the key and it fires right back up. Has also done this to me a few times just trying to start it. cranks and cranks and nothing!! Then all of the sudden if fires right up?? Almost like a spark issue. Does anybody have any ideas? I donk get any check engine light or anything.

i about 95% sure its the ,crank positioning senser. its located in the bell housing, mine went out about 3 years ago[ thank god it was still under warrenty] it actually rusted out from all the road salt, and had to be drilled and tapped out, itsa pain in the azzz to replace, take it to the dealer, they can run a code check for free, but im sure that is it. my 01 8.1 did the exact same thing.

I believe this is it too, could be you're just running out of fuel in 10 minutes with the 8.1!!!!:D Just messing with ya check out the crank sensor and have them run a diagnostics test on it, should show up if they run it a few times and for long enough, my sheet usually works when I take it to the dealer and then when the mechanic drops me off the thing dies.

Had something similar happen on an 89 RS Camaro years ago. Let it set for 10-15 and it would start and run fine until something over heated 10-15min later. Replaced fuel pump, still did it, replace fuel regulator, still did it. Finally replaced the distributor and all was good. Talked to another guy that had a camaro that did the same thing that threw the same parts at it and his wound up being a bad injector.

Sounds like the Crankshaft position sensor. There is a recall on the 01 Silverado/Sierra Suburban/Yukon XL for this concern.

How bad of a job is it to replace the CPS myself? How much has the dealer charged you guys for this repair? I read the recall for the 2001's. Sounds just like what is happening to me......too bad the 2002's werent covered under the recall too!!

Crank Sensor

I have an 02 with a 8.1 and I was having the same problem a couple of months ago. I got the crank sensor replaced and have not had any problems after that.

Its 90% your crank position sensor. they have a new one out but it requires the dealer to hook it up to the computer. I want to say I paid 250 out the door but I don't remember for sure. Check the truck forums for more information.
