02 800 Summit, adding VF3 reeds, jetting question?

Have an 02 Summit HMX, stock except for can. Now I just went to VForce-3 reeds. I know there is a notorious mid-range lean spot on these sleds, I tend to vary the throttle to hopefully avoid the problem.

Do I need to rejet for the VF3's? Or at least do something with the needle situation? I am not sure what the jetting is off hand, I am going to pull the mains and see as well as the needles to see where they are set now. Sled has been working fine up until now with good plug color.

The old forums had LOTS of older Doo info on them, wish they were still searchable...

Thanks in advance!

Buy Bigcat AK's 03 carbs. I had mine rebuilt at Xtreme Perf. out in CO., a little pricey.
A while back, CPI Racing, if I remember right had parts to rebuild them right, hooded needle jet, etc.

I'd have to dig deep to find my info, and I believe it takes a certain driver to set those needle jets to the right height.

02 800

On my 02 800 , stock the mains were 500, it had NON adjustable needles. You raise the needle a bit by removing the needle and putting the plastic washer that rides on top of the e-clip under the e-clip. I bought a set of hooded needle jets from CPI , they came with adjustable needles. With this set up and a set of Boysens I dropped the mains down to 430, ran the needle e-clip one notch down from the middle setting...for a bit richer run thru the mid-range... stayed with 17.5 pilots, the install wasnt to hard. A small punch pushes the old needle jets out and the same for installing the hooded jets, I used red locktight on the install. Hope this helps Dino

Non-adjustable needles. Hm. Have to admit I was hoping that going to the VF3 reeds might require no adjustment, or maybe a main jet change not a carb overhaul or replacement. I am going to check out that spare set I have to see if they are any different... i.e. have a kit in them or are a newer set...
