looked at my airbox today and noticed that the previous buyer had gutted it...wondering what the advantages and disadvantages are to having it this way...thanks

he didnt gut it they come empty like that its so if any water does get through it doesnt have a srtait shot to the carbs

Wow. That's all I can say to an answer like that.

I think most guys who have actually ridden and worked on these sleds have said the stock setup is the best way to go for most people, especially on a basically stock sled. Evilbay or the swap meet here will get you a unaltered box for little cash.

Stock Airbox

Get rid of that bulky awkward pain in the rear and replace with two K&N angled pods. Much easier to work on things and you will be happy with the performance gains. I did this on my 2000 Summit 700 - worked out nicely.

It can screw with the mpem settings and tweak your dpm settings, I've talked to many people on this subject, they said they didn't notice any increase, and one said that it actually hurt it, weather that was from the airbox or not is up in the air!

Only can speak from my sled - but I haven't had any issues with this setup in several years.
