01 F350 won't shift into 4wd. Help. Riding tomorrow!

So when I parked last night it was in 4wd. This morning it wouldn't come out. The light stayed on and it stayed in 4 until I parked it again, shut it off and started it with the selector switch in 2wd. Now it won't go back into 4 nor does the 4x4 light come on. It has just the switch, no lever. I believe it is all electrical and not ran by vaccum lines. I tried all the obvious, neutral, reverse etc. I don't want to head for the mountains in 2wd, but I've got 3 guys showing up at my house in the morning to head out.

Anyone had this happen? Advise?

Thanks

check the fuse but i beleive the actuator on the transfer case quit, had that happen on a 00 f250, you can also check to see if the switch quit with a test light at the actuator,

It may be possible that you accidentally put it in 4x4 low. I've done it before.

I think the procedure was put it in neutral, full stop with the brake on, and switch it to something else.

Thanks guys

Just talked to the mechanic in town and he said it was most likely the actuator on the transfer case or the switch. I think I'll check the fuse first.

Do you know if the fuse is labeled "actuator", "4wd", "t-case" or something of the like? I suppose I can find the fuse chart in the manual.

Again thanks for the help guys.

Thank you wade!

Just remembered yesterday before I parked I pulled somebody out of drift near my house and used 4 low obviously for the first time since I've had this pickup. Just used your suggestion and she's all better. What a relief!
Thanks so much.

Jeff

I have had this happen before.. Keep in mind in an emergency you can always crawl under and remove actuator than manualy turn the transfer case. Throw the actuator on defrost and re-install after dethaw.
