Help needed

I installed the RKT diamond drive clutch kit on my M8 today. The belt is riding up high in the secondary now so its pull the belt tight in the primary. Any suggestions on what to do to drop the belt some in the secondary?

Also, how do you open the diamond drive clutch with the RKT kit installed to change belt?

Adjust the belt deflection the same way you do on the stock clutch setup. Twisting the adjuster in will loosen the belt.

To open the clutch to change a belt, you need to just twist the helix. A strap wrench works well. On the trail I flip my 07 deflection adjuster around and tighten the bolt down. That does the trick.

I have that same kit for my M1000...really like it. For the belt deflection, simply add a washer to the secondary bolt...this pushes the inner sheave away and lets the belt ride lower in the secondary. I had to use a 1/2 thickness washer to get it right. Leave it tight...you don't want to pull the secondary open to much...clutch works really well in that range too.
For changing, push in on the outer billet cap and the inner sheave edge at the same time while twisting right.
What's your set-up?

simple fixes

thanks

I got the 38-34 helex and installed the green snow pro spring. 10000' plus riding conditions. Have not tried it yet.

Installed the RKT head and had teh jugs ported. Works well

Same setup I'm running at 7-10k, I put the green spring in the middle hole, and just ordered cutler adjustables as I need to drop some weight to get it to 8100 rpm.

I was told to add washers to make the belt ride higher, or decrease deflection.. wtf?
Anyone else have problems with the spring in the secondary? Mine seems to be losing paint from binding in the cups like the primary's have problems with...

My bad...you are right. I was thinking backwards on the assembly. You add washers to tighten, remove to loosen.

No issue with loosing paint on mine...you sure the top bushing is in place and the lower spacer is set correctly? I did have the top bushing come loose on me while riding this past weekend...had to put a few detents into the aluminum to make sure that doesn't happen again.

Jim,
Nope, gonna have to pull it all down and have a peek inside. Only has two rides on it, HOPE nothing has come loose but ya never know... If all looks like it oughta, then I'll have a buddy take a few thou out of the spring cup area. One thing about that RKT kit, would be nice to have an exploded parts view, or the odd pic with the instructions, just for verification purposes. Any other helixes available? Seems all i ever hear about guys running is the 36* ??

A different way to skin a cat...

I added the threaded Black Diamond Adjuster to mine, and use an adjustable angle grinder wrench. Way better then carrying shims IMHO. Seems to me it's only 20 bucks. Hope this helps someone.

I figured it out

You loosen the main bolt, open the clutch some and turn the out side Black Diamond quick adjust belt adjuster. Really very simple once you figure it out

RKT needs better instructions

winner winner chicken dinner. thanks garciava, will give that a shot. i was just loosening off the bolt and cranking the adjuster, guess with the belt still in the sheaves it was having trouble closing up.

just installation instructions. No adjusting instructions

Just dumb luck
