Forest Rangers on Sleds?

Anytime you give anybody any kind of authority, most of the time they're going to take it too far. Heck for all we know, they're trained to "let 'em know who's boss," which is why they come off as pricks.
Rob

They don't train us to be pricks... unfortunately for a lot of people it come naturally.

There is about a 10 year(or more) lag time between the technology that the top hobby/enthusiests use and the stuff that enforcment officers are given. Police driving crown vics trying to catch a subaru sti or lancer evo x. A cop on a harley road glide trying to keep up with an R1 or busa, and a fish cop on a 550 fan eating snow from a boosted nytro. I think its mostly attributed to how slow and inefficient the gov is in getting anything done.

Most FS people who are out on snowmobiles have very little experience with them, they only ride one because something in their job is requiring them to. After some of the stuff I saw people do on the job few winters ago, I was glad they were on little 550 fanners and other small sleds because if you would have given them anything more it would have got UGLY real fast. I tried to tell a guy how to break in new hi-fax and when I told him to go like he!! for a while his response was "like 30 mph?" and honestly at anything over those speeds I would have been fearing for his life (and mine). This same guy was extremely impressed that I climbed a 10' road cut on an 01 700 RMK and asked me if I liked "high pointing"... at that point I could barely contain myself and my vulgar comments. I managed to keep it down to "no I was just tired of riding on the trail so I decided to go up there and look at those tracks."

It has been many years, but I used to work for a Yami dealer. We sold the FS in the Black Hills the sleds they used. At the time we found out that they were really good at crashing them. Seemed every week one of the sleds was getting fixed. Nothing against the FS, but it always upset me that it was our tax money that had to keep fixing those things.
Even today, I doubt most of them grew up snowmobiling. Last year I was ridng around a blind corner only to find a FS sled parking smack dab in the middle of the trail. He was trying to help someone get unstuck. Could have caused an accident.

I find there are a lot of liberal greenies in the FS, with a few exceptions who never make it very far up the FS ranks.

The upper eschelons of the FS are mostly all die hard liberal Subaru driving greenies.

Same with DNR and the Park Service.

just my observations from WA state.

Why does everyone gotta give the subie a bad name:confused:I got one that must be a rebel cause its going to tow a sled this winter:D
Don't wanna mess with F.S.? Its simple ride when and where most people don't like to, I.E. off trail and week days or nights. Ive seen a FS guy twice both time on the trail into the area and both times it was only because burial being reported.

As you can see, Subaru is teamed up with REI thru their various steward ship programs. They try to take away our sledding areas and promote human powered sports and aquire new wilderness areas.

Subaru = greenie just as REI = greenie

Not that I care if you drive a Subaru, hell I kinda want one myself for the winter commute over the mountain.

Be kinda funny I show up at REI driving my Subaru asking about snowmobiling backbacks and gloves :D

and besides Bubba, I'll give you a quote that might relate to you:

Leave What You Find
 • Preserve the past: examine, but do not touch, cultural or historic structures and artifacts.
 • Leave rocks, plants and other natural objects as you find them.
 • Avoid introducing or transporting non-native species.
 • Do not build structures, furniture, or dig trenches.

I could go on and on and on lol

Good info, and yes it is pretty funny showing up at REI or other stores like that and asking if they carry dirt riding or sledding gear.
Yes they are sweet in the snow heck I took a drive up a logging road yesterday in it by Reiner, wouldn't do that in most cars.
But yes I do know they are the #1 choice of hippies, tree huggers, liberals, and cough cough dykes.
Trenches? What you talking bout willis?I ride a poo not a doo!

At the top of Sugarloaf Lookout, between Lake Wenatchee and Lake Chelan, Washington.
They also tried to tell me that my sled was too loud and that they could "Ticket, or even impound" the sled.......Again, Stock exhaust.
I'll bet I know who the guy was... he's a piece of work (used to live/work in the Methow Valley- wife grew up there as well).
Hey Weekday Warrior you have PM.
