RKT 827 BB Kit experience??

'03 8-- HO from what i hear this is the same engine as the revs up to '06

What you heard was false.

OEM is 798 cc's (I think). I am pretty sure this kit actually has 830 CC's.

I have heard this is a great kit. I am tempted by it as well.

I have heard of some people burning them down, but to me it sounded like tuning issues, not kit issues. No cold seizes, just burnups.

We put one on an '02 Summit. Took some time to tune it in but it ran really strong. Then on about the 5th ride, it stuck a piston... 4 corner seize, middle of the day.

New pistons and running again. Ran great for another 4-5 rides, then same thing, 4 corner seize.

At that point we traded off for a stock top end.

We were running it with the non-hooded needle jets... I would not do that. I think that may have been our issue... those needle jets/carbs sucked.

But as for power, noticeably stronger than stock and the guys at RKT were super helpful and got us parts fast to fix it. The guy that owned it just didn't want to mess with it any more after the second seize.

I bought a kit on EBAY a yr or two ago and it had been 4-cornered too.

I never used it and for the sake of keeping them the same - I traded for some stock jugs.

As per the one that was 4-cornered in the middle of the day - was he running a thermostat?

827

A buddy of mine( Powderfiend ) put one together at the begining of last year, no isues with the engine, but could not get the power to the track. He tried a P-85/team setup, could not get it to work, it was also a pos P-85. Anywho the rkt 827 seems like a good kit.

We were running all the stock components including a thermostat. We were also running the tank at 150:1 premix. Motor was warm, in fact as is usually the case, it was running really good right before it stuck. :)

Only thing we could figure was that those funky hoodless needlejet carbs caused us problems. I suggested to the owner to replace with a different set of carbs, but he was ready to move on to something else.
