Ski-Doo X-Team Racers Take Command In Iowa

News

Ski-Doo Snocross racers continued their historic season claiming five of six podium places in the headliner Pro class on a challenging track in Dubuque, IA, March 8-9, including two wins by Elias Ishoel (BOSS Racing) on the weekend.

Ishoel Unstoppable In Iowa

With the season coming down the home stretch, championship points leader Ishoel has the throttle welded to the bar. Doubling up in the winner’s circle on any weekend of racing is never easy, and that proved true for Ishoel on Friday night.

After capturing a win in his first heat race, a brief get-off in his second heat left him battling for starting position in the final. A solid start left him trailing teammate Aki Pihlaja through seven laps, but Ishoel finally found his opening to take over the race. That’s how the top two positions stayed the rest of the way.

The win was Ishoel’s third of the season, and first since the Jackson Hole, WY, rounds earlier in the season. It would take less than 24 hours for Ishoel to add to his season win total.

In Saturday’s action it was again Ishoel fighting through the fog, snow and sleet to complete the weekend double. As the snow dust settled off the start line, Ishoel was already making his run at the lead, and it wasn’t long before he left the rest of the field in his wake.

It looked like Ishoel would coast to victory, but Adam Renhiem (Warnert Racing) had other ideas. Renheim found himself in second after four laps and quickly ate up a 5-second gap to press Ishoel to the max.

Ishoel responded in championship fashion by picking up the pace and holding off Renhiem to complete back-to-back wins on the weekend. Renhiem finished in second while his Warnert Racing teammate Tim Tremblay charged hard from his mid-pack starting position to take third—and claim yet another Ski-Doo podium sweep—with Pihlaja finishing fourth.

Patenaude Extends Points Lead

With a win on Friday night and a second-place finish on Saturday, Scheuring Speed Sports’ Hunter Patenaude extended his overall points lead over fellow Ski-Doo racer Francis Pelletier in the Pro Lite class race for the championship.

After taking over the points lead in the previous rounds of racing, Patenaude looks tough to beat, but Pelletier made it clear he’s not backing off either. Patenaude claimed his fourth win of the season on Friday night, with Ski-Doo’s Max Taillefer crossing the line in second, while Pelletier, who led much of the race, finished fourth after serving a penalty for jumping under yellow.

Saturday’s racing action brought some of the toughest conditions of the season with freezing rain, fog and snow all present throughout the day. Patenaude put together another solid day, finishing second in the final to extend his overall points lead, while Pelletier charged from a back row start to claim the final podium position.

With just two rounds of racing left, Patenaude leads the race for the championship by 19 points over Pelletier.

Brodeur Closes In On Championship

With another solid weekend of racing, Ski-Doo’s Megan Brodeur is zeroing in on her second consecutive Women’s Pro-Am points championship.

Friday night saw Brodeur notch her fourth win in a row and ninth overall this season. A second-place finish on Saturday means the high-flying Quebec-native has finished in the top two of every race this season.

Currently, Brodeur sits 54 points clear of the competition in her quest for back-to-back points championships.

Lebel Sets Sights On Three Championships

Ski-Doo’s Jordan Lebel has a chance to complete a rare trifecta and capture three points championships in one season. Lebel leads the Junior 14-15, Junior 16-17 and Sport Lite class race for the season points championship by a comfortable margin in all three classes.

He helped his cause in Iowa winning in each class and further establishing his stranglehold. Ski-Doo snocross athletes continued to dominate the track in the latest rounds of ISOC Snocross racing at Mt. Pleasant, Mich., Feb. 1-2, 2019. Checkered flags were again the theme of the weekend as X-Team racers collected wins in nearly every class on the weekend.
