The fly racing F2 Carbon Helmet has been around for quite a while, and we've worn one pretty much every season they've been out. It's hard to pass up on the F2 Carbon. It's one of the most comfortable helmets we've slipped our heads into. But, with time comes progression of the competition. There are more than two dozen moto-cross-style helmet brands to choose from in the sub-$300 class. Fly has been in the upper ranks for us for years, but we're excited about the updates to the DOT and ECE approved 2019 F2 Carbon Helmet.
Updates
For 2019, it gets an updated one-piece carbon shell with integrated mouthpiece. that cuts the weight of the ECE-certified helmet by a third of a pound compared to the previous generation F2 Carbon. It also reduces production costs, so the 2019 Fly F Carbon is cheaper than the 2018 was- and it still features MIPS Brain Protection System (Multi-Directional Impact Protection System).
Fit
The fit and comfort of the 2019 are just as good as before, withthe added bonus of being lighter. The F Carbon is one of those helmets that seems to fit the majority of head shapes and get good reviews for comfort. Like any helmet, the removable cheek pads and liner need a rid to break in and to fit to your head shape. But the lighter 2019 Fly F Carbon has a better comfort feel than the previous generation.
Weight
On our scale, the 2019 Fly Racing F2 Carbon with MIPS in an XL weighed in at 3.16 pounds.
Final Thoughts
For the price, the 2019 F2 Carbon is a great buy. We wish the F2 Carbon had more venting, but that's typical for a sub-$400 helmet. To get MIPS protection, great fit and weight in the 3-pound ballpark for under $300 is a steal.
