A new legendary raceWhile the majority of USCC races are one-day events, the highlight of the USCC season is the Red Lake I-500, a three-day, 500-mile race that takes place in and around Thief River Falls, Minn. The race is the modern version of the prestigious Winnipeg to St. Paul race that was run in conjunction with the St. Paul Winter Carnival in the late 1960s through the 1970s. It's something Mach hopes to bring back in coming years.
"We're looking seriously at running from Winnipeg down to the Twin Cities metro area within the next couple years," Mach said. "There are a lot of issues to overcome with the border crossing and the Minnesota DNR, but our
initial strides have been positive. It would be a great way to call attention to snowmobile racing and would also showcase the sport of snowmobiling in general in a positive light. We would have to rely heavily on the snowmobile clubs in Minnesota and Canada and doing so would call attention to the many things they do in the sport and community. We're excited and we hope we can make it happen."
For now, Mach and the USCC are content to lead the charge for grassroots snowmobile racing in the Midwest and East. Find more info and follow races via online broadcasts at www.usccracing.com.
