Martin, Mich. - A hot early fall sun and 166 asphalt racers scorched the asphalt at the 18th Annual TORCO/AmSnow Super Sled Shoot-Out last weekend.
Racers from Maine to Missouri, and a strong Canadian contingent, competed for seven titles, including bracket races both Saturday and Sunday. Highlights of the weekend included two racers who ended up with a couple titles apiece.

Michigan's Edwin Wirbel won the All Motor Quick 16 Saturday, and then came back to take the Pro Stock 1000 Quick 16 on Sunday with the same sled. His Sunday time was 8.38 seconds at 151.97 mph.
All grins both days was Ontario, N.Y.'s Adam Schmitt who collected the Bracket Shoot-Out title both day's. He was running in the 9.9 second range and edged out Maine's Keith Wood Saturday. On Sunday he knocked his father, Jim, out in the fifth round, but neither was complaining after collecting their winnings.
Single title winners included Greg Thomas' Northeast Ohio crew on Saturday. Thomas won the Super Stock 800 race for owner Jeff White.
On Sunday, there was a bit of a tail wind, especially early in the day, but it had calmed down come finals time.
Jeff Jaquish took the Open Quick 16 onboard his Straightline Performance backed sled, owned by Dale Ibister and Jason Houle. He did an 8.19 at 158.33 mph.
Rounding out the winners was Indiana's Adam Fricke, taking the Big Twin Quick 16. Fricke, sponsored by Total Powersports and Smoothie's Speedshop, also nabbed a couple second places for the weekend.
This is the second year for the Super Sled Shoot-Out at the Knoll Gas Motorsports Park in Martin, just off US 131 between Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo. The event is organized by Jamie Bellman, brought to you by TORCO Fuels and American Snowmobiler magazine and is sanctioned by the National Snowmobile Drag Racing Association.
