Mt. Crested Butte, Colo. - Crested
Butte Mountain
Resort (CBMR) is teaming up with X-Games snowmobile event organizer, Joe Duncan
with 357 Consulting to kick off the first annual Roost The Butte snowmobile
competition and festival.
Roost The
Butte will be held on the resort's closing weekend, April 6-7, 2013. The event
is the first of its kind held in Crested Butte since the ESPN Winter X-Games in
1998 and 1999. It is open to all snowmobilers with the proper equipment,
looking to compete in the various events and enjoy the excitement of snowmobile
mayhem on the ski resort.
"After bringing the first snowmobile event to the
ESPN Winter X-Games in Crested Butte and how that led to the explosion of
snowmobile competitions, it is great to be returning to the area," Duncan,
support organizer for ESPN Winter X-Games for the past 17 years, said. "We will
be running multiple events at this one venue, which will not only be exciting
for the racers, but also for spectators. Crested Butte has an ideal location with a dedicated
team. We couldn't be more pleased with how this first-year event is going to
unfold and showcase the sport of snowmobiling."
With the goal for this event to bring the
snowmobile community together with multiple disciplines, Roost The Butte will
feature four different events with multiple classes for each event: a snocross,
a hillcross, a hill drag and snow ovals. In addition, there will be other
unique features, vendor displays and an overall great atmosphere all to take
place in the Gold Link area of the mountain.
"We have been looking for an event that can bring
more economic stimulus to the area in the month of April, we thought that
working with Joe and the regional snocross circuit XMR was the perfect fit,"
Scott Clarkson, vice president of marketing and sales for CBMR, said.
"Snowmobilers are ideal because they don't require air service at a time when
our flights schedule has decreased in the area. In addition, this is exciting
because we don't anticipate this being a one year event. We're looking forward
to blowing this up to four or five days in the years to come, which will be a
big opportunity for this valley."
Registration for the two-day event starts at $25
per person. Competitors can register on Friday, April 5 from 8-10 p.m. in the
Elevation Hotel Conference area or at the venue on the mornings of the events.
Discounted lodging is available for all registered competitors at the Elevation
Hotel & Spa by calling Crested Butte Vacations at 888-280-5724. For more
