The wait is over. After nine years without a cross country race series in Wisconsin it has been announced that Cor PowerSports has teamed up with Rox Speed FX and Studboy Traction to bring cross country racing back.
The Cor PowerSports/Rox Speed FX/Stud Boy Traction series will be based on the 3 F's: Faith, Family & Fun. For the 2012 season the focus will be on creating a grassroots cross country Wisconsin race series, organizing a fundraiser snocross to benefit organizations in the Somerset, WI, community and a Christian-based snocross camp.
The series will consist of three races in northern Wisconsin (Stone Lake, Mercer and Cable) during the months of January and February, 2012. The courses will vary in terrain from woods, fields, fire roads and lakes, which will be designed to challenge racers of all abilities, from the seasoned Pro to the newest Junior racer.
The tentative schedule is:
Jan 7 - Summit Lake Game Farm, Stone Lake, WI
Feb 4 - The Hideaway Resort, Mercer, WI
Feb 11 - Telemark Ski Resort, Cable, WI (Year end banquet same night)
The fundraiser snocross will be held in Somerset, WI, on Saturday Dec. 31 at the Somerset Amphitheater. This location has had a great history of events and the group looks forward to adding snocross to its list of successful events. A portion of the proceeds raised from this event will be donated to a variety of organizations in the community: a church youth group for its spring retreat, Somerset Sno Sports Snowmobile Club and the local food shelf.
The Friday before the race the group will be running a Christian snocross school to help provide the youth in our sport the tools they need to advance their lives both on and off the track. The group will bring in instructors that have a wealth of knowledge and willingness to share the skills they have learned during their racing career to the future racers of our sport.
On Sept. 17 there will be a pig roast at Papa B's Lounge in Somerset, WI, to celebrate the launch of the series. The day will include food, raffles, games and entertainment.
