Hey guys I have a 2001 mc 800 with some work done to it and ive heard that the driveshatfs on these older cats can be a weak point. I would like to ride this machine another season or 2 reliably So any advise on what i could do as far as upgrades would be appreciated. Thanks:beer;

Put in a 1.25" instead of the 1.125" shaft from the 900 sleds '03 and above. There was a blog about 2 weeks ago on this and should be some pricing. Just do a search.

The shafts were only 1" hex and broke more often than they should have. When they went to the 1M, (03.5) to 06', they had a 1 1/4" shaft. You can put the heavier shaft in the 01'. The biggest concern is the bearings on the end of the shaft. The speedo bearing needs to get greased quite often or it will fail. It would be a good idea to replace your bearings on both ends, check your chain for wear, and rebuild or replace the clutch. The clutch was probably the weakest part.

yeah they had bearing issues with em. Speedo bearings and the chaincase bearings with the machined outter race for an Oring always cracked.

I put in a 1 1/4" titanium shaft with 10 tooth extros on my cat turbo its been bombproof! Parting sled out, its for sale if you interested 200 bucks complete!
