stock exhaust ? on m1000 clamshell

why did they in 09 go to such a small clamshell on the stock pipe, i have a new one from either a 07 or 08 and the clamshell goes right to the donut, in my opinion this would stop lots of unwanted heat in engins compartment, was it causing the earlier to deto cause of too much pipe heat close to cylinders? curious if anyone knows. thanks D

The reason they went to this wrap was to keep the pipe cooler to meet the emission numbers they needed. If you remember the update kit they had they removed some of the wrap to accommodate for this.

so in reality i could run the full clamshell on my 09 without and problems?? there wont be too much cylinder heat causing deto?? thanks for your reply

I don't know if the full pipe wrap would cause any problems with the pipe temp sensor. If this is a 2009 it may have a different map in the ECU which may cause performance problems.
