Roost the Butte
Saturday, April 6th, 2013

Ring out the winter season at Crested Butte Mountain Resort this weekend with a different kind of closing day festivity. Joining forces with X-Games snowmobile event organizer, 357 Consulting and TBA, the resort will be hosing the first annual Roost the Butte snowmobile competition April 6-7.
We wanted to share our exciting news with you! Tyler’s Backcountry Awareness received an invitation over the weekend to sponsor “Roost the Butte,” a snow-cross, drag-race, hill-cross snowmobile event held in Crested Butte this coming weekend of April 6th and 7th. “Roost the Butte” has an additional three year contract with Crested Butte, which is excellent news for us as well. This weekend they are expecting 60-70 racers with approximately 20 racers registered in the pro class and a pro purse of over $5,000.
Roost the Butte features four competitive disciplines for experienced snowmobilers, including snowcross, hillcross, hill drag and snow ovals. Competitors can enter all four disciplines, and a cash purse is up for grabs in most classes. Vendors will be on hand to give out free swag over both days, and an after party at Butte 66, featuring the Latin rock sounds of Los Mex Pistols, will keep the adrenaline going after the engines stop revving. If snowmobiling isn’t your think, then catch a glimpse of this event from the sidelines, as Roost the Butte is spectator-friendly.
Registration is $25 per person, per event and will be open from 8-10 p.m. at the Elevation Hotel and Spa, or the morning of. Discounted lodging is available for all registered competitors for $99 per room at the Elevation Hotel and Spa by calling Crested Butte Vacations at 888-280-5724.
Are you ready for more great news? Since TBA is now a sponsor, “Roost the Butte” has agreed to pay out winnings only to pro-riders who are wearing avalanche bags. TBA is going to make sure that we have enough avalanche bags at the event for all the pro-racers to borrow if they need to. We expect this event to provide TBA with excellent exposure and an opportunity to reach the younger more aggressive riders, most at risk in the backcountry.
