on number 7 in about 8k miles..last 2 were lower rod bearings..it spins 9200 rpm.most fails have been with amsoil but also have failed with redline and klotz..never with polaris blue though..am going to some type of bean oil maybe casrol r this week on the latest rebuild..very hard miles on this hyper 700 but think most failures are from rust etc during storage, funny the longest lasting crank was with redline at 70:1 premix..latest crank from po was 450.00..is what it is. will say never balanced a clutch nor blown a belt, cases welded, cranks welded, true.with a motor plate..no rhyme or reason but talk with indy dan..seems to have the key to this known problem, just remeber it's a polaris so of cource it's a problem so to speak when really every engine can have the same problem..

No Failures here

I own or owned:

2002 700 RMK - 3000 KM
2004 800 RMK - 2000 KM
2007 700 Dragon - 1000 KM
2008 800 Dragon - 400 KM

No engine failures on any. I prefer to keep my sleds relatively stock eccept for light weight chassis components and exhaust cans and I run poo 100%synthetic oils and keep clutches well maintained and clean. :)

My '04 800 has about 1450 miles on it, clutch balanced, SLP base plate and torque/push arms...engine secured. Last crank runout check was in spec. Using VP C2 oil, hopefully will continue to have no problems.

I have had two 2003s one RMK and a Vertical Escape. The RMK went 3500 miles and I sold it. The Vertical Escape had 3800 miles on it after last winter so I sent the crank and cases to SLP during the summer. The crank was bad so I bought a crank from SLP and they installed the big bearing on it. A few weeks ago the new crank broke with only 750 miles on it. I called SLP and they told me that I’m SOL. The crank broke right where they installed the bearing; this is also where the hole for the clutch bolt/puller ends. I have been calling dealers getting prices on the 09 Dragon and have told them my story and about half say that the SLP bearing is garbage. SLP explained that they can put a new PTO end on the crank for around $500 to $600 but there is still no warranty. I’m going to keep my Escape for a backup so I have decided to send it to Indydan who does the bottom end for around $1500, and he does give you a 3 year warranty. I think my sled will be worth the extra $ with Indydan’s bottom end in it.

never had a crank failure, replaced the odd piston, but thats the price you sometimes have to pay for living on the edge.

I'll only list my personal sleds... not the ones that have come through my shop.
'00 800 - Broke at 1250 miles, warranty covered
'02 800 - Broke at 2300 miles, rebuilt and modded to 910. Broke twice more since then, each time at just over 1000 miles.

All sleds had clutches maticulously maintained and other than the '00 had the wide bearing update.

Crank issues

'98 700 twin - 8,500 miles on factory crank, full crank rebuild and 3,000 miles more since w/754 big bore.
'01 800 twin - 4,500 miles when sold, no issues
'03 800 twin - 3,000 miles when sold, no issues
'98 700 twin - 754 (now 770) mod assembled from new parts in '03 - 6,100 miles currently.

I've had one con rod issue (likely storage related), but no broken parts.

uhhh, i think your poll percentages are a bit misleading......
are you asking about the current motors, old motors, john deere motors......???
why are these threads always posted by someone with 1-5 posts? hmm
