No more 440 please!

Hello again,

I will get straight to the point. I have a 92 jag 440 and I am just wondering if there is anything on the same chassis that may have a bigger motor so I can swap it out with minimal modifications. The motor is tired and I would rather rebuild a bigger motor or swap a good condition engine than rebuild the old 440.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you for your time,
Garret

550 , you should be able to find a cheap sled for 1000 or so that would be major up grade from that 92. I would have to think a motor is going to 300 to 500 $ plus much wrench time getting it to work.

Negative on the 700. But the 550 is the same. Didn't the EXT's or the '95 Z come with twin pipes and a 136?

What motor was in the Cougar? Was that a fancooled sled still? Can't remember.

Come on Reeb, shake the cob webs out !!!!!!!!!:D The better fit would probibly be the 530 from an ext or the 550 both were liquid cooled. If I remember correctly the Wildcat was the only one to have twin pipes, the Ext mtn cat had a 136 as did the 700 wildcat mtn cat. That 530 in my old Ext was a kick A$$ little piston port motor, sled would run near 100mph Yeeeee haaaa. Then I think in 95 or 96 they came out with the 580 in the first powder special chassis???? Maybe we both need to shake the cobb webs out !!!:D:beer;:beer;

93 was the first year for the 580... Had one in the Z chassis it might fit the 440 chassis turn both motors upside dowm and see if the motor plate will interchange... Or, look at where the engine plates mount too the engine, been a while, don't quite remember where for sure the engine mounts bolt to the block.

I know the 550 will work, not sure about the 530. From '93-'95 all the 700's were twin pipes, I think (At least I know the Wildcat's and ZR's were). Don't think they ever made an EXT with twins (I had a '94 and a '95, and both had singles). '95 Z was a single too. '95 was the first year for the Powder Special, came with the 580.

Wouldn't it be a lot of work to go from a fan cooled jag engine to one of the liquid cooled engines?

Running coolant lines down the tunnel and a heat exchanger in the back of the tunnel it'll be fine as long as you are aware you can't ignore the rockhard snow conditions etc.

Cobwebs......yikes.....My ZR700 came with twin pipes. Not these twin pipes.

Sell the Jag for what u can get for her and get a newer, bigger liquid sled. A ZR 580 or a Powder Special 580 non-efi. There r plenty of these sleds out there for less than $1k. IMHO too much work to put into that sled to swap in a liquid.
